Story about me that my Hoomans would like to share: I got a call one afternoon from my DRNA mentor asking me if I had room for another Dachshund, I was "full" but Shorty was due to leave for his "Forever Home" in a week so I took him. Sammy was found in Crossville Tennesse by a home owner where Sammy decided to camp out and hope that someone would take pitty on him and his traveling companion. The two dogs had been on their own for quite some time and were in bad shape. Sammy went to DRNA care and his companion went to Scottish Terrier rescue. He came to the house looking like an eitheopian famine victim (16lbs) and his skin was in horrible condition. Bags and bags and bags of food, lots of brushing, some antibiotics, baths, a warm clean bed and some good company.....Sammy has turned into a beautiful B&T standard with the sweetest dispostion that I've ever seen in a Dachshund. His fur has grown back and it is one of the softest coats you could hope for...and shiny like a new dime.
Story that I want to share about my Hoomans: Ed, Wilson and Lucy have been very very kind and loving to me but Ed told me from the get-go that I could not stay here forever. As much as I would like to stay it's time for me to find my own forever home. My house training is coming along and I'm doing much better but whoever adopts me with have to work with me. The doggie door I have available has me spoiled. My coat is beautiful and soft soft soft...so you'll really enjoy petting me. I get along really well with my doggie brother and sister. Cats...well you may be able to work with me on the cat issue, I don't really like em but I don't hate them either. So far I seem to get along with children but haven't been fully tested. Oh, and I'm a great snuggler!
Do you want a beautiful, sweet companion? My DRNA number is 6098 and you can adopt me by going to www.DRNA.org and looking for Sammy in Tennessee.

Daggnabbit he's cute--and SHINEY!!!!!!!!!!! Shiney hiney! (he IS a hunka handsome boy dogger, ain't he?) Good job gettin' him ready for that forever home. Sumbuddy will find him and they will be true companions for ever. (Did the Yorkie find a home, yet?)
Po pityful babes, wandering the streets and now they have landed in butter.
I couldn't tell ya a think about the yorkie. My DRNA mentor turn him over to a yorkie rescue group and I have no information about him.
I've had Sammy since november of 08, I'm gonna hate to see him go but I've done my job to get him ready. Now I have to find a deserving family to give him a good home.
Good News
Hopefully, God Willing, Sammy will have a new home this weekend.
I have almost fulfilled my obligation to him.
I took him in and treated him like a son.
Nursed him back to health.
Fed him good food and snacks
gave him toys and chew toys to play with
Gave him a clean comfortable place to live, sleep and play
House trained him.
Loved him like a son.
Now it's time for me to find a good home for him.
Ask the "Big Man" to smille on us!
:xfinger:  :xfinger:  Praying and Crossing Fingers for a great new home for Sammy! Hope this week-end turns out!!!
To make a long story short.
It was the perfect home with good responisble pet owners...except for one thing...the fly in the ointment was...the un-secured in ground pool that the dogs had access to.
1. My DRNA coach forbid me from leaving Sammy if the pool was un-secure.
2. I don't think I could sleep at night thinking of Sammy floating lifeless in the pool.
Yeah, if it were not for the unsecure pool I could have left Sammy with them knowing that he would be well taken care of.
I did let the lady know that an unsecure pool is like having a snake in the back yard, sooner or later it is going to bite you. She'll be very unhappy if she comes home to find her dog floating in the pool. My brother lost a Dachshund in this fashion. It's like having babies and pools, personally, I would not have a pool that the dogs could get too.
too bad for Sammy, but until I find the right home for him, he seems very happy where his.
What a bummer!! Fingers crossed for the next home!
That's a shame. But you are wise to not budge on that one. I too would never have a pool or hot tub or any kind of water as long as I have a dog I have heard too many horror stories and usually they come as a surprise, thinking the dog could never get to the pool or would never go near it. Hope Sammy finds another home soon.
What a cutie! There's someone out there looking for him. They just have to find him. He'll land in as good a home as the rescue pups on this board are in - I just know it.
It came to me last night.
I figured out how to "label" Sammy's demeanor....
His new nickname.
