Zora has picked up a urinary tract infection. How it revealed itself was a pretty unusual combination of circumstances.
We had a snow/ice storm, leaving a slippery surface in the backyard. I took the puppers out, but Zora really didn't want to squat down on a giant ice cube. A few minutes later, I was eating breakfast and Zora was standing by the door. Margie wanted me to drop what I was doing and take her outside immediately. I told her to relax, that Zora had never gone in the house before and I would take her out when I was done breakfast. It turned out Margie was right as Zora uncharacteristically peed on the carpet. We discovered there was a definite presence of blood in the urine. I immediately thought "UTI". Taken her out a few minutes later confirmed that there was blood in her urine.
Off to the vet. One X-ray, one catheter, one lab analysis of the urine sample, two subcutaneous shots of fluid for hydration, one antibiotic prescription and $400 later, the UTI diagnosis was confirmed. Zora is doing just fine. It never affected her appetite. However, had this been a "typical" day where the grass was green instead of snow-covered, we never would have discovered that she had a UTI, maybe until she was really sick, or even too late. Zora's accident was truly a blessing in disguie.
We are sending HHHHHH's & PPPPPPP's for Zora. Hope she feels better soon!!!!!

rays coming from Illinois to Zora! :comfort:
 How does this work? Is there something puppers can drink that will flush their systems, the way that cranberry juice flushes out hoomans?
:thinik: Merlin
Rays to Zora that she recovers quickly as does your "pocketbook" from the vet visit.
You can buy Cranberry pills & capsules at drug stores & health food stores. Drinking Cranberry juice keeps bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall so helps keep down UTI"S.With Dachshunds would think pills would work better most likely a 1/2 of a pill might help.
Get well we girlie at least you are on ths mend..

Zora is doing better. The antibiotics seem to have cleared up the UTI as her pee looks normal. She has to stay on them for about a week.
Oh no !!! Rays on the way for sweet baby girl !
