Who makes a good belly band and where do I get them?
I'm gonna stop this little leg lifting pee machine or strangle him...one of the two...
I got 2 from PetSmart for my foster, Chippy. They are great!! As long as he has one on there is no leg lifting in the house (of course that took a while). If I forget to put it on, he is about 90% reliable - still going for 100%. He was an ultimate super deluxe pee machine. I think the neuter helped some, and the belly bands are helping even more!! I've seen some nice looking ones on e-bay, but I needed mine immediately - couldn't wait for e-bay.

dont strangle him... males are difficult I remember - I would say patience and get him fixed... for health reasons, plus its easy to train them when they are fixed - how old? how often does he go out? rewards while peeing outside like praise work well!!

I would not necessarily say "easy", but definitely
easier. I am still working with my foster rescue, Chippy. He is about 3 years old and was not neutered when he came into rescue. Still lots of praise/treats for peeing outside. Not yet 100%, + he did a bit of backsliding this week. Belly bands - I do love them!!

The book Merle's Door cites studies that approximately 40% of adult male dogs neutered after age 2.5 continue to "mark."
Both Merlin and Beau were neutered as adults, (ages four and two, we guess), and they never miss a chance to get into a peeing contest. The only way they don't is if they are confined in a kennel. So if you've got an adult rescue who was inact, you only have a lower chance to succeed.

Joey was a 5 year old intact male who came into rescue. Of course we got him neutered - no more (well maybe once a year) marking in the house. Chippy the 3 year old rescue is probably 85% reliable. I've had lots of male rescues, and my experience tells me it is doable. It is also lots easier to work on when it is warm and sunny outside.

you are correct, my bad - easier - not easy - and those studies do prove to be true in every dog, not just dachshunds from my exp... we have one male chinese crested who is fixed and a female that just went into heat - we missed it, and they got locked up together - I was under the impression that once fixed that would not happen but he proved us wrong... he also proved to us he was not gay HAHA, when he was intact he would always try to mount boy dogs... kinda funny so for halloween we got him a robin hood men in tights outfit... I think we were the only ones who got the joke :)

Back in the first few years I had Scooter, he had terrible problems with nervous or fear-based peeing. It frustrated me to no end, even though I knew it wasn't his fault he was scared. The belly band was a godsend. I hope you have good luck with yours if you decide to get one!
