We thought we had a handle on Bonnie's owie on her back but I guess we acted too soon with the cone removal and she really did a number on herself. She's obsessed with "doctoring" herself. So, I just don't know what's going to help and if she doesn't show marked improvement this week, I'll take her in to the vet on Saturday. We are doing two new things starting yesterday. I read that Missing Link supplement helps skin so we got her some. Maddie gets it too. It's the Petco knockoff brand but has the same stuff in it as ML. Also, after hearing about the soft inflatable collar, we got one. Now instead of the cone, she has a donut around her neck. It's not foolproof because the little stinker can get around it with that long body of hers and get her long tongue into turbo lick drive. In addition to the donut, I'm wrapping the wound when we're not home to watch her with a clean piece of teeshirt cut into a strip. So she is our Diaper Doll Donut head. If ANYONE has any other suggestions for clearing up this skin lesion, please let me know. I really think what it is, is a flea bite that has become infected. Even though I've never seen a flea on either dog (we have NO grass), flea control has begun in earnest as Maddie, for sure, has been tested and is allergic to flea bites.
Gosh, I really don't have any suggestions. Alex could get to his wound and stitches even with the cone on. I had to wrap his wound with a handkerchief tied around his belly. That helped but I still had to keep an eye on him. It was a full time job.
This might be something you've already tried, but... some triple antibiotic ointment (sold at any drugstore/Walmart) and a baby or child's t-shirt, tied at her waist. I'm thinking Petco/Petsmart sell some kind of ointment that tastes/smells bad to them, to reduce licking.
I've had good luck with a baby onesie. I cut a hole for their tail, but otherwise they're just perfect. Covers the whole body. The only downside is you have to undresss them to take them out to potty, but well worth it to really prevent them from getting to something.
Bless your heart ! No ideas - but sending rays that it goes away soon !
Oh no! I was hoping her owie would be gone for good. Poor Bonnie. I really don't have any ideas on this one. I'm really sorry. We're sending rays to Miss Bonnie.
Exactly where on her body is it have a picture of it ? can you put more air into the donut or add a small towel wrapped around her neck then the donut ? Of course you would have to fold the towel lenght wise just something that would make it harder for her to turn her head??? Just grasping at straws here.Good Luck with your little Miss Doctor maybe it itches thats why she will not leave it alone too bad they cannot talk sometimes. Papbouv
Crossing fingers and paws and praying Bonnie's owie gets better soon. I am sorry I have no ideas to give you.
OOO! OOO! OOO!!! I GOTS A GWEAT IDEA!!
TAKE THE OLD CONE AND TIE IT AWOUND HER WAIST LIKE A HULA SKIRT. BET SHE CAN'T GET HER TONGUE AWOUND DAT!!!
GUINNESS:hello2:
Honey, aren't you supposed to be napping???!???
Mebbe . . . :angel13:
:2funny: I love that idea Guinness! Maybe her mama should paint it pink or purple and then do it? :dontknow:
Quite honestly, Guinness, that is a BRILLIANT idear! I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I got the old cone out and put it where I'm remined. It would strictly be supervised as I don't think Bonnie would be able to sit with the cone on the south side of a Dachsie facing north.
If we don't see any improvement, I'm going to take her in on Saturday and see what the vet says and see if she has any super duper antibiotic to help the healing process. MUST BE SOMETHING THAT MADDIE WON'T EAT OFF OF HER.
