So, while I was at the show today, I bought these four rabbit fur squeaky mice. I put one aside for Millie's toy in the show ring, and gave the other three to the four of them tonight when I got home. Murphy, Millie and Reilly promtly shredded the two they had (surprising, because Murphy is usually very gentle with his squeaky toys, and Milie isn't super toy motivated at all), and Winston, who usually is my toy killer ADOPTED his toy :dontknow: I have never seen him do anything like this before. Maybe ti was the rabbit scent or something, but he took the black mouse into his crate, curled around it, and started protecting it. When anyone would come near the crate, he would growl at them. He would rest his chin very gently on it. In the photo below, Reilly was right next to me as I was taking the photo, and Winston was growling at her to stay back.

Sadly, I went to the grocery store, Winston came out of the crate to see me off, and Reilly snatched his mousie and it was ripped to bits when I got home. I'll have to get him another one tomorrow (actually, I think I'm going to have to buy out their inventory :2funny: ).
Did Winston look for his "baby" after the carnage? That's sweet.
I am reminded of dear Dolly who had NO mothering instinct whatsoever, accept for a few days. She had a false pregnancy ( I forget if this was before or after she was fixed) and was even lactating a little. We had accidently come upon this little stuffed hippo in a grocery store parking lot, so we picked it up and brought it home. Dolly LOVED the little hippo and mothered it and was ever so gentle........until the false pregnancy was over. Then she ripped its guts out. So much for being a good mother. She probably would have eaten her young. It was the funniest thing.
LOL-OMG. That's hilarious. He doesn't seem fazed that it's gone. In fact, he was playing with what was left of it, so I guess after she killed it, he decided it was okay to treat it like a toy again. He's such an odd little boy. I've always called him my mama dog. He's helped raise the three puppies I brought into the house after him. He still cleans their faces and ears. He has a very strong mothering instinct. He was born the wrong sex, I think.
These are photos of Amy's "puppy" it is a dachie hand puppet, well Amy dragged it arround shaking it etc we can only hope Ingrid was not treated the same way

Zora, who is incredibly maternal to any living being absolutely "kills" her toys, even more so than Zeke. If you give her a stuffed dog, she will kill it. If she is around a live one, her instinct is to mother it.
What an adorable picture of Winston with his mousie. Toys do not stand a chance in my house....they are destuffed in minutes.....I do think you need to buy all the inventory that store has...how cute
Lily is like Zora, she will mother any live thing, but rip any toy to shreds. I am trying to get her a job as a dog toy tester. :)
He is sooooo sweet! It's just amazing how much he and Gretchie look alike!!!! Ron, my husband, is convinced there's a relationship in their lines somewhere. Like you with Gretchie, Winston is special to me.
Oh! I forgot to update this. I bought him a new one, just like the one he loved and he wasn't fooled this time. It was in bits in five minutes flat :2funny: Who knows what prompted that response last time, but he recognized it as a toy the second time!
