We has all been worried bout you and Uncy Dave and Sargey and Duggie. Are you guys safe from all dat bad water? Is all da snow melting now? Let us know cuz we want mama to stop worryin bout you guys! Love to you all...from Baby Dog Bea speakin for all of us.
Baby Dog Bea, we are doing fine so your Momma can stop worrying. The last snowfall was on Monday - another 6 inches. On Tuesday, the temps started to warm up and it was a rain/snow mixture, but it was warm enough that the snow has started to melt and it is melting fairly quickly causing lots and lots and lots of water buildup everywhere. But, the temperatures go down at night, so the water turns to ice -- so we also have ice buildup under the water puddles. It is not able to go into the ground fast enough. We still have mounds of snow but they are getting somewhat smaller. The storm drain plugs on the roadways are all still covered with snow so the roads have now turned into lakes. There is just no where for the water to go right now. The boys are not happy with all the melting and the lakes that have now taken over their backyard. Their area has now gotten a bit smaller because of the lakes. I'm working on removing some of the water so they have a bigger space. We have a larger area in the front that is dry so I've been putting the two on their leashes, out we go, and they are doing their business out front (which we don't have fenced in). It is suppose to be clear with warmer temperatures through this week -- which means more melting snow and water everywhere. The schools are still closed in many areas, because the roofs of the schools need to be cleared from the heavy snow on them. The Governor has declared an emergency and the Air National/Army Guard members are shoveling roofs of schools in order to get the kids back in school. Due to the heavy nature of the snow/wet mixture, roofs are still collapsing....I believe the total is now up to 50 buildings and more are sagging. We had ours cleared just before Christmas and it is now completely clear. All of the passes, which includes four major ones to get from the east side to the west side and vice versa, have been and still are closed because of avalanche concerns and water on the roadways. It's a mess everywhere.....there have even been several snow rage incidents -- there have been people who have shot at snowplow drivers.....that's scary. Flooding is the major concern now --
So, we're doing okay......I'll be more than happy to see the dry ground and sunshine again but winter is still here for a few more months. We could still get another snow storm which has hit us in the past in January. I know the two furkids will be happy when it is dry out......they'll then be able to reclaim their backyard which has been overtaken by the Snow. There have been many times of cabin fever hitting especially for Dave who with limited mobility has been stuck in the house because of all the snow and ice. The boys don't want to go out and get their feeties wet. I've been working on my quilts in between having to clear the snow.
We just need to find our swim fins now.......but who knows, more snow could still fall from the sky so we'll need swim fins for our snow boots!
Dee
