Title: Eddie's big scare
Post by: Marcia from MI on December 22, 2008, 06:11:19 AM
Even  though it snowed Friday everything was shoveled and plowed by late Saturday, but yesterday we got wind beyond belief and all of it drifted around the porch.  But being the good mom I shoveled the porch off for Eddie and a spot to do his business.  Last night Eddie was having one of those nights and kept getting me up every 15 minutes for food or wanting to go outside, which I refused to do.  Finally I did let him out on the porch, but did he stay no he decided to walk on the snow drift.  And for the next minute I was in panic mode.  Eddie fell through the snow, but was too far for me to reach.  Running inside I grabbed my jacket and hat, but not my boots - can you say crocs.  Out I go down the ramp into knee deep snow to a crying little dachsie.  He was lovingly picked up and put on the porch.  But as I made my way back to the ramp Eddie decided to go down the ramp and got stuck at the bottom.  As I went to rescue him yet again I fell, Eddie did make it back up with a little help and so did mom.  He was cold, wet and shivering, but after a few cookies  finally fell asleep.

He's a bit out of it today, really tired, but otherwise OK.  How many days until spring?

Eddie, dis is Duggie......I fell into a snowdrift yesterday morning, too!  I thought I knew where the edge of the deck was....dere is so much snow that it's right up to the edge of the deck.....and plop.....in I went!  It scared me!  In this weather, Mom goes out with us.....because of the frigid wind along with the snow....we get no privacy to do our business in this weathr.....anyhow, she plucked me outta the snow hole. Mom told me to not get so close to the bank but I didn't listen to her!

Marcia, hope you are not feeling too sore from your fall!  Take care and stay warm!  Dee

I'm fine Dee luckily I have an ice mat that goes from the door to the grass that covers the cement ramp.  It broke by fall.  I thing trying to dig Eddie out of the snow drift without gloves was worse.

Duggy dis is Eddie once when we had wots of snow der was a snow bank running around the whole yard up to da top of da fence and I would climb on top and walk on it.  Den one day it gots warmer and the snow started to melt and gots soft and I fell through it and mom had to rescue me - AND SHE LAUGHED AT ME!!

Marcia here:  I'm glad I have a video cam now because if Eddie does his walk on frozen water bit again I can film it.

Oh gosh, I'm so glad you are both okay.   We're STILL waiting for our snow here in our part of Nebraska.  We only got one teensy tiny little storm that dropped on inch and the wind blew it all away.  We are hoping to at least get a white Christmas.

Now Eddie...didn't we just instruct you at your recent fall, NO MORE SCARES? Nasty weather makes for a lot of problems. I can't believe you fell too Marcia are you sure you are both OK? I agree spring can't come too soon.

Porkys Mom Hallie and I will send you and Porky all our snow. I'll put it in 11,000 cardboard boxes so watch your front porch!  I just now tried to go to the post office to mail some orders that HAVE to go out today and only made it 3 feet down my driveway before I got stuck.  :cussing: My poor neighbor came to help, stepped in a huge hole he couldn't see in the snow (he has very bad knees so not good) and by the time we got my van in the garage 20 min later, he was covered with dirty slush from the tires and looked like he'd just hiked a mountain. I agree with Marcia and Eddie, spring can come anytime now!
