Title: does anyone have to share
Post by: Leslie on December 06, 2008, 10:36:47 AM
a cutting from a grape ivy plant?  I managed to kill my elderly one.  A commercial grower I spoke with said the reason I can't find a new one is they take to long to root and growers have switched to other plants.  Will pay ya for shipping if someone has one and can root a cutting.
It's weird but I miss that plant.
Thanks, Les

I thought the same thing until I clicked on the mail order catalog. Apparently they are no longer growing it either and do not know of anyone who is. I have a couple of patients who have many houseplants and my friend who works with me knows who most of those are. I'll see if we can find out if anyone has any.

Thanks!  Isn't it funny how this plant was everywere in the 80's and now it's like some kind of endangered houseplant??

I have this crawling around the fernery outside, but dare say that customs etc would have a problem if I sent it.
Roberta
ps I've been trying to kill the thing for years to no effect.

pps sure you don't mean English ivy as it has sort of grape like flowers

I take my shovel and chop it off at the ground and pull it up to corrall it.  That  works for a year ar two...

That is a pretty plant!  I've not seen it before.  I would love to have one too, but unfortunately I tend to kill them unless they are fool proof!  Somehow I've managed to keep my spider plant and a cutting from something else (the name escapes me at the moment) alive for a couple of years now.  I do have live plants in my two aquariums also, but I don't really do anything to them - the fish take care of the fertilizing and watering is a breeze!

nope, they are not carrying it at this time.  And April it is fool proof.  Well, until I killed it, but that it because after all the years of having it I figured it was unkillable and when I moved into my new house I put it over an air conditioning register.   froze it's widdle bottom off.

If I lived in Oz or Canada I could order online.
soooo...looks like Craig's list and I will scout my local thrift shop and pester my local florists--who, are on a first name basis with me, so hopefully Sean or Dave can get this in.  Or I will next be haunting hospitals to check out patients' foliage gift baskets and sneaking it whilst they are unconscoius to steal  a cutting....
silly how you want something simple and can't find it.
Thanks everyone for your input.
