Title: No name for a pupper! Shorty's not coming . . .
Post by: Doxherding Karen on November 24, 2008, 08:20:20 AM
Well, I'm not voting, folks, it's up to you!  I like Shimon or Shimmy, but Tarver sounds real good, too.

So vote early . . . and often!

Auntie Karen

UPDATE:  Well, it just goes to show: it ain't over 'til the DRNA volunteer agrees!

Tracy, the DRNA volunteer has decided that Shorty will not be coming to live with the Herd.  Too bad she didn't wait until after a home visit to make a more informed decision about me, but she is basing her decision on what she feels is best for Shorty, so I can't argue (well, I could argue, but I already tried asking her to at least get the input from a home visit before she made up her mind, to no avail).

So good luck to Shorty and Mr. Ed.

Auntie Karen :crybaby2:

I voted for Shimon/Shimmy.  I like that it is a bit different but not too far out of here.  Good luck with the naming.

Darcel and Sol Da Man  :glasses9:

PS  Sol says he likes it, too because Shimmy sounds a lot like Solly.

I took Shorty to my mom's house last night, she wanted to keep him for a trial run. I told her I didn't think she was a suitable candidate, and I'd already promised him out you.

I'll let her keep Ms. Lucy for awhile and then find her another dog when she's ready.

Mr. Wilson and Shorty are becoming fast friends, Ms. Lucy is still standoffish.

Shorty is a snuggler for sure. I still say take him everywhere with you for the first 72 hours and bond him to you.

Thanks for asking.

Ed sent me the following e-mail in response to my e-mailing him.

Karen
I'm sorry to hear it. Tracy volunteers her time and effort because she really feels that she needs to do whats best for the dogs. Thats the advantage of working with a rescue group, if your gut says no then you don't have to let the dog go and then worry if you did the right thing.

I think Tracy feels that 5 dogs is a little too many and your time would be best spent training and working witth the herd you have now. Personally, for me, 5 dogs would be too much and all I do is work, keep my house and spend time with my dogs.

She gave me a list of different reasons she didn't want to sent Shorty to you and I feel that it would be best if I followed her lead and not go against her.

Again, I'm sorry she won't place Shorty with you but she has to do what she thinks is right.

Edward

I had asked her to at least delay her decision until after I passed the home visit, and she could conference call between Ed, the home inspector and herself, but she had already made up her mind.  I respect Ed's decision, but I feel that she jumped the gun.

In any event, what's done is done.  I believe in karma, and G-d will send the right pupper along at the right time.  I just hope He uses a big bow and a tag that says, "This one, Auntie Karen!"

Karen

In my expeirence, it works exactly like that, minus the bow and tag.

Don't feel too bad, I wouldn't give Shorty to my own mother :shocker: remember. If thats not having tough requirements, I don't know what is.

I too believe that if and when one is meant to come to us, they will and fate will have us keep them no matter what! If a pup is in your near future Karen, he or she will find you. They do come with tags for those of us too daft to recognize our gift at first! This is how Hallie came to me...

Yeah, DD - the dachsiepult slipped up on you and whammied you with Hallie!  Patty's not the only one who remembers that!

Karen, I am so sorry Shorty is not coming to you, but I also believe the right dog - er, dachsie, will come along for you - usually when you least expect it!

Yes this really does suck. Especially when it was told to you that the final decision was actually Mr. Ed's. At least that is what he posted. Sorry that you got your hopes up. I am sure that you will be finding a forever pup soon that you and the herd will welcome with open arms and paws. I think 5 is too many for someone that doesn't have enough love to go around. And after all we have one fabulous member that now has 10!! So don't give up hope!!

I'm sorry to hear this; but, I know that life works in mysterious ways.  I find it unusual when some rescue people pass judgement without meeting the family (including hounds) before making their decision.  You are a fine "momma" and it really is Shorty's loss, not yours.  Have faith....
