Title: Hey Turkey fans
Post by: Leslie on November 21, 2008, 03:35:53 PM
I have a 20 lb bird.  can I start thawing it now--it should be completely thawed out by Wednesday and of course I plan on cooking it Thursday.  Should I keep it in the freezer one more day and get it out tommorrow?  I think it will be okay as it will be refridgerated, right?

Hey Leslie!  To thaw a frozen turkey in the Refridgerator: 1 day for every 4 pounds or for every 5 pounds allow 1 day, 6 hours.  For a cold water thaw, allow two hours for every 5 pounds.   I'm going the easy route this year.....a 24 pound fresh turkey which I pick up on Wednesday at the meat market!  Have a great Thanksgiving!   Dee

As long as it is kept in the fridge and cold, there shouldn't be a problem.

I would put a frozen turkey in the fridge NOW.  If its not completely thawed by Wednesday night, put in a sink of cold water with ice cubes.
