Bonnie has been exposed to fire or smoke at one time or another. Tonight, I turned on the oven and soon the whole kitchen and most of the house was smokey. Seems that the cheesecakes I made yesterday really spilled over. I've got the self-clean on (first time I've used it) so hopefully that will clear up the dirties. Anyway, Bonnie turned up missing. I finally found her in the computer room, standing in a corner and shaking. She seemed terrified. I talked to her and then she went outside for awhile. When she came in, she hid under the bed for a while and then came out and was still shaking. She seems really scared! Most of the smoke has cleared up now and she seems a lot calmer. I wonder if she was ever in a smoky room with panicky people or if she was in a fire at some time in her life? Maybe she was just super sensitive to smoke. Poor baby. Didn't faze Maddie at all.
Aww. Poor baby. That would make me wonder too. Give Bonnie an extra squeeze from Porky and I.
Poor Bonnie. That would actually make you think that she had been in a fire at some point in her life. Poor Baby....extra hugs and smoochies to Bonnie today
I tend to think that it's just instinct to have a negative reaction to fire and smoke.
She could have had some negative experience with smoke or fire, or it could just be instinct, like when they hide when fireworks are going off. Some dogs freak out more than others.
Kendall-angel always reacted that way to smoke. She would usually go under our bed and shake. It was the only time she would hide from us. One time I found out something had started smoking because she came into the bedroom and darted under the bed. We had her from 8 weeks old on and so we knew she had never been in a fire or anything. Schatzi has never had any reaction (and believe me, Randy is good at burning popcorn sometimes). It could be instinct. No knowing her history, however, you just never know.
