I have a friend who lives and works on Cayman Brac, one of the smaller, Sister Islands of Grand Cayman. When Hurrican Paloma came through on Saturday, Cayman Brac took a direct hit of a category 4 storm. There were only minor injuries suffered (a true miracle) but the property devastation is extreme. The resort she manages is damaged to the point that it will have to be demolished and rebuilt. 80% of the homes sustained major damage and 95% of the homes sustained some type of damage. They are taking the residents that want to leave over to Grand Cayman, which came through the storm pretty well.
Please remember these people as they try to get through the next days, weeks and months of rebuilding. A lot of these are true islanders that have lived there most, if not all of their lives.
Hey Teresa: In 2005 my familyand I went on a cruise to Montego Bay Jamaica;Grand Cayman Islands and Cozumel Mexico and because of hurricane Dennis we couldn't stop at the islands;but went on to Cozumel instead a day early. After we left Cozumel we had to stay out an extra day because of the weather.
