But I think we made the right one. We had applied to adopt JoAnn and I was waiting to hear back from the rescue group on my home visit. Last thursday evening one of our neighbors stopped by (we don't know them well... they live down the street a bit). Evidently, his dad had to go to an assisted living faciilty where they cannot have dogs. He had a four year old smooth black and tan girl whe needed a home. His son, my neighbor has two labs and couldn't have another for whatever reason. He knew that we had lost Toby-Man and thought we might be interested in giving his dads baby a home. He said he had been trying to find a home for her with no luck and was going to have to take her to the SPCA.
Keith and I discussed this at length. Both Joann and Bella are the same age and the only real difference is that JoAnn is already in the Rescue system at what seems to be a wonderful foster home. We decided after sleeping on it, that we would adopt little Bella. My heart is just broken about not being able to adopt JoAnn but I simply cannot bear the thought of Bella going to the SPCA. So Friday night we brought her home. She is a sweet little thing and quite pudgy! She has been terribly sad but is just starting to come around. She sticks to me like glue and is quite timid around the others. She has also lived in a condo for most of her life so she has always been on a lease when she is outside. This is a bit challenging because the others all use the doggy door to go in and out and do thier business. She's not really sure about the doggie door yet, but we are working on it. Beatrice has been a bit jealous, which I sort of anticipated. Lots and lots of extra snuggles for her and hopefully she will get over the jealousy soon. There has been a bit of growling but I'm nipping it as soon as it happens.
So I'll try to get some pictures of her posted soon. Wish us luck! The Trio is a Quad again!
You did the right thing, Terri. JoAnn is in a good foster home and that foster mom will find the right home for her. You couldn't let Bella go to the SPCA, I agree. I'm sure Bella is very confused, and sad. Give her lots of TLC. She and your other dogs will work it all out, I'm sure. Good for you!!! Sometimes they just fall in our laps like that.
You totally made the right one, I believe the right ones come to us when the time is right and we dont' have as much control over the decision as we think we do. :) Can't wait to see pictures of her, the neat thing about her is she is so unsure and worried right now that you are really going to get to see her blossom! Please keep us updated with stories of her as you see her come out of her shell!! This is great news. JoAnn will be fine too she is destined for a great family also I'm sure!
I believe that you absolutely made the right decision to adop Bella. Joann is being well cared for and Bella didn't stand a chance at the moment. WELCOME BELLA BABY!!!
Terri, as I've posted, we've been having a little jealous problem here too but I think it's getting better and better. I've been very diligent about socializing the girls together and in groups. We went to our dachsie meetup group today and both girls had a blast. Even Maddie was social...LOL. I'm interested in how you work with Miss Bea and what works. Does every sleep in the big bed or do they sleep in their own bed/crate at night? I still feel guilty about putting Bonnie in the crate at night, but I can almost hear her saying; "it's okay mommy. I LIKE to sleep in my cave."
Bella will blossom before your very eyes, you wait and see.

I figured it out! I kept thinking that Bella reminded me of another dachsie from this board but I couldn't remember who. She looks JUST like Berman! Only chubbier! :heart: :heart:
Awww Terri - it is never easy to make a decision to choose one or the other. I, personally think you made the right choice and for the very reasons you stated. JoAnn is being cared for in a great home - her forever home will come. Bella NEEDS you and your family and the request wouldn't have come unless a certain angel at the Bridge was able to manuever it !!! She will come around, I have no doubt at all - just a lot of new stuff to experience, including a loving caring family.
Can't wait to see pictures of Bella (LOVE the name!) and the whole Quad together ! A Big CONGRATULATIONS !!!

You did make the right decision. Bella will be where she belongs and Joanne will find a forever home. Prior to fostering Eddie I had filled out an application to adopt a greyhound. All the paperwork was done and the interview over and all we had to do was wait, well between the interview and the adoption Eddie came into the picture and we never looked back - there is a plan out there for all these guys to get adopted.
