OUR FIRST FOSTER! Miss Bonnie is 9 years old. She is a b/t smooth tweenie. Poor Bonnie got a bad rap. This guy that I work with (his dog) told me about 2 weeks ago that they "Had to get her out of the house asap! She fights with the new dog". I say it takes two to tango (or in this case, tangle) but no. According to the couple who had her, it was all Bonnie's fault. Did I mention this was a NEW dog that A) they probably just tossed in the house without proper introductions B) doted on, feeding new dog first C) Out with the old and in with the new. ETC....
Wouldn't you be a tad jealous if YOU were Bonnie? So anyway, Stacey from Foxy Dachsie Dachshund Rescue drove the 40 miles to pick her up THAT day and INTRODUCED her to her herd, including very Alpha Torey. No fights. No spats. They all sleep together in the big bed. Bonnie is one happy doggy. I met her for the first time at the annual wienerdog races here in Atascadero and she was ALL WAGGY TAIL and already REALLY attached to Stac. She had some war wounds and has an inverted nipple but other than that, she is in excellent health and quite spry for 9 years old. Maddie and she basically ignored each other but never a raised lip, not once. Such a "vicious dog" Bonnie is. Her former owners are convinced that she should NEVER be with other dogs. Hmmmmmm.
Well, I considered her right there and then but reasonably thinking that we really can't afford another dog right now. Being 9 years old, you know, age does happen, but I did say I would CONSIDER fostering her. Mark was non-committal on that so I just left it alone.
Last night, we learned that Foxy Doxy Dachshund Rescue is about to take in TWELVE from a former breeder. The call went out for fosters mommies and papas. I told Mark about it and he agreed that we needed to take Bonnie just to make room. See? She HAD worked on him!!
Bonnie comes to us tomorrow evening on a foster basis only. We are still actively looking for the perfect home for her. We will keep the girls separated during the day (Bonnie gets the crate until we can trust her on her own during the day). We have an x-pen, but it is a low one and, like I said, she is spry and would probably jump it or try to and hurt herself. It will be a new experience for us so if ya'll have any suggestions, we'll take 'em. I'll try to manage pictures asap.

Maddie may really enjoy having a boon companion! That is cool that you and Mark can foster her. Our first family dachsie, Johanna, had a puppy named Bonnie, so I have a lingering fondness for the name.
That is so wonderful!! Can't wait for pics!
I bet you are right about the new dog 1st in everything at 9 years old they most likely think she will not be around much longer anyway. I was told along time ago by people I knew that ran a boarding kennel some people would just dump their old dogs with them same at the vets but that is better than dumping them in the country. Some people just do not care to do the right thing by their old dogs at least Bonnie was placed in rescue could have been allot worse for her. Its great you have been able to Foster her.

:apls: :apls: kudos to you guys for fostering Bonnie. What a wonderful experience you will have.....I can't wait to see pictures either!!! :apls: :apls:
They dumped the 9 year old? Had to get rid of her?
I feel sorry for the new dog, these people obviously have no idea of what they are doing.
Congratualtions on the new foster. Bless your heart for helping her out.
Sandi - that is great news !!! Bless you !!!! SOOOO sad...I really wonder about people.....
Can't wait to hear how the Roo and Bonnie get along !!!
Bless you for taking Bonnie in as a foster. I love to foster seniors. Most are so loving and thankful to have a warm bed and good food. Plus they love to cuddle.
Cannot wait to see pictures.

My 9 year old Lucy is a regular Ball Of Fire. She's a happy, active dog for sure. I just can't picture giving her away...ever...
She is so lucky to be coming to stay with you! Thanks for fostering her, it sounds like you are doing her a HUGE favor! It is so sad when people do stupid things like that. Poor Bonnie! I'm sure Bonnie and Roo will love each other lots.
Good for you!!! :apls:
I'm sure Maddie will love the company.
I just don't understand people basically dumping a loyal companion for years for a new puppy  The older ones just break my heart. You're an :angel4: for taking in this girl until her furever home finds her.
How awesome! You guys are the best.
We can't wait to see pics of Bonnie and to hear about all the goings on.
