Title: Here's the deal
Post by: Marcia from MI on October 11, 2008, 12:15:29 PM
When you come in our back door there is a small landing and you have to step up to get into the kitchen, well Eddie has decided that he doesn't want to hop up to the kitchen anymore so mom has to pick him up and put him there.  I don't really mind it, but sometimes it's hard for me to do it.  So here's my new crusade I need suggestions on how to fix it so I won't have to pick him up.  There's only about a six inch wide space to put something so a ramp won't do.  I had thought of a mini trampoline but knowing Eddie he'd try to bounce up to the ceiling.  The only other thing I could think of was a step of some kind, but am not sure what it should be made of.  Any suggestions?

How about a picture of the problem area then you be easier to try and figure out a solution?

I was thinking so too I can't quite picture it...but I do agree a trampoline doesn't sound like a good solution LOL.

Not seeing it is a bit hard but, what about a wedge with a slant of either wood or something hard.  What I imagine is a wedge that would fit up snug against the side of the step up and then it would have a slight slant down on the other side.....a very mini ramp.  I would not be big at all.  What I can picture is truly a very small ramp but just enough that Eddie could walk up it and would not have to hop and you would not have to pick him up.  Dee

How about a brick to create an intermediate step for the obstreperous little man? :thumb:

It's the least you could do.  And Auntie Karen says, "I always do the least I can do." :2funny:

Smirk, smirk!
I'll "smirk" you, Dr. Leaky.  Remember who's got the opposable thumbs in this house.
Yes, Auntie Karen, you do. :dontknow:

While the trampoline would be entertaining, I like the very small wedge or brick idea better.   :2funny:  A picture would definately help to know what to do for sure.

Marcia, when I get home, I'll take a picture of my front door.   The previous homeowner had the same issue and they did put in a "wedge" which works fine.  Although, I have a 7' wide front porch, they just put this in as a transition down to the porch.  It should give you an idea what one person's solution was :)

I was thinking something like a 2x6 cut to fit the length you needed to travel.  It should fit relatively snug in the 6 inch space and after it was secured it shouldn't wiggle or be difficult to walk up.  It may not work though depending on the area.  A picture would definitely help if you have one!
