Title: How is Everybody?
Post by: cheryl186 on September 14, 2008, 04:56:44 PM
Well, Ike and the cold front came thru Cincinnati today.  We had winds of 70-75 mph today.  Lasted for a few hours.  How did everyone else fare??  Most of Cinti is without electric....where I live in Sayler Park looks like a war zone hit....my neighbors two trees fell in our yard, took out our fence on two sides, our rabbit kennel and hutch, our two decks around our pool...oh yeah...and their trees are laying in our pool which is crushed...and the tops of the trees are laying against our back screened in porch. How is everybody else?  We will be without electric two days.

Has anyone heard from Nikki...and how is Barb?

Two days without electricity, you poor thing.  I did notice at the Bungels, er Bengels and Titans games there was electricity.  :thinik:    Sorry to hear about all the damage, hope you get everything repaired fast.  You didn't say, but are the bunnies OK?????  Auntie Karen's herd will need to know this, so it is very important that you report on the bunnies welfare.   :icon_albino:  Keep the faith.

Glad to hear that you are all okay -- how did Zoe and Winston do with the storm?  Rays to you all!

Zoe, Winston and Sheba did well with the storm.  We never did receive any rain, just all the wind.  Still no elec.  My battery in my laptop is now dead, but I am at work and we are up and running here.  Still about 80% of the area is without elec.  Thank goodness I have gas in the car...one thing you never think about...and money...yes, cold hard cash is hard to come by...no ATM's working...geeze.  I am waiting on the Insurance Adjuster to call me.  Hope everyone else is doing well.

WOW!! I thought that you would have been spared some. IKE stayed going north longer than they thought. But the winds are evil!! Did you get pictures? I hope they can get power restored soon for you. I wondered if you took your laptop into work to recharge? I am sorry I didn't sign on soon to see what you went through. I am sending prayers and rays to you!! I am going to check with my friends in the Dayton area and see how bad they got it. At least there is no rain now. That should help with the retoring of the power. Take care and be careful!!

I meant to post in the last one about our weather here. We had some wind starting late Saturday night and through yesterday. Not as bad though. It did however blow our pool down the hill. It was already empty though. The pups didn't like going outside at all. Carson got blown a bit yesterday so after that he really didn't want to go outside. Not much rain though from IKE.

I wanted to let everyone know that Cheryl is doing well. She is still without power and having to load up on ice for coolers to keep food from going bad. She said that downtown Cincy is operating but not really anywhere else yet. The gas stations have very long lines and had police monitoring them. She did say that she was able to take her laptop into work today to get it charged up. So she may post later if she isn't too tired from yard clean up!

I was just telling her today that I have seen nothing on the problems there in Ohio from IKE in the news. Has anyone else?

Thanks Mel for posting for me.  We finally did get power restored at 7pm Eastern Time.  Yippie!!!!!  My mom is still without power but we got ice for her and are trying to salvage some of her food.  Good news from the insurance company.....the adjuster will be out tomorrow at 1pm to look at the damage.  So, I am happy to say that things are finally getting back to normal.  Thank you everyone for all your rays and best wishes.... :thumb:

Woohoo!! We're glad you have power again!   I haven't seen a thing about Ohio on the news.  I hope you can salvage your mom's food.  I'm just glad you are all safe and sound!

Amorette, the funny thing about that is....I haven't been able to see anything about it either....hahaha.  www.wcpo.com (http://www.wcpo.com) and www.wlwt.com (http://www.wlwt.com) are our local news.  I need to check it out too.  All I know is we sent a lot of our "Duke Energy" people down to Texas to help them restore their power.  We had to call some of them back and ask for help from the good folks in South Carolina who sent a lot of their workers up here to help us.  Bless you, South Carolina!!!

:apls: I am glad to hear that you have power again, and everyone is doing OK. Hope you get a fair adjuster and you can get everything back to normal soon.

South Carolina remembers the year when the ice storm completely crippled the upstate area for a week, and it was the week before Christmas. We had trucks from Alabama, Georgia, and everywhere else showing up to help. I saw on the news this week they were sending trucks out to help get power restored and I was wondering where they were headed. I'm glad it was in your direction.

That is bizarre that even you haven't seen anything on the news about Ohio!  That is great that South Carolina could come help!!!

The only way we heard about it was on the radio because of no electric.  Lord knows when my mom will have hers turned on  :dontknow:  The adjuster came yesterday.  Actually he found more than we knew about.  Apparently something hit the awnings on one side of our house and damaged them.  I called a couple tree services and they stated, "call us back on Monday and maybe we can get to you".  Sigh...we emptied the rest of the water out of the pool last night.  I think this is going to be a long, slow process :BangHead:

That has to be frustrating!  I have no idea how I missed this post, sorry!!!    :doah:  What did you find out on Monday?  Anything new?  I sure hope they get things up and going soon, the cold weather is coming fast!

Things are going nicely.....and guess what!!  Our insurance company has already settled our claim.....So we have been working really hard on clean up for several nights.  We have sawed trees, dragged limbs to the street (we filled up the street with brush in front of three houses), burned brush, taken down the pool and the dog kennel and tonight hubby dismantled one of the decks the trees hit.  We are soooo tired!!!  Hubby had a skidster with a bucket on the front brought in and we are grating and smoothing out the yard and filling in where the pool was with dirt.  I plan on making a really nice seating area with patio bricks and placing a firepit in the middle.  At this point my outlook is....well now the yard is a clean slate and we have the chance to make it something really nice and different.  Next, we have to work on getting a new fence.  The good thing is that just about everyone around the Cinti area now has electric

Wow!! You have been busy!!    That's a lot of work.    Glad you got everything cleaned up, the insurance claims done, and that all the power is back on.   :apls:   I really think the firepit sounds like a cool idea.   My hubby and I always wanted to do that.
