Title: Has anyone tried Pedipaws?
Post by: Teresa on September 13, 2008, 08:16:12 AM
I'm reading some good reviews for this for nail trimming and wondered if anyone had tried it. It is like the dremel but has a guard that goes on it. You can also buy the guard separate to put on your own dremel tool. I'm thinking about getting one to try on schatzi and molly, but am still debating. I would love to be able to do something with Molly's nails, especially. There is no way she will let us touch them with regular nail trimmers.

I, too, have been thinking about buying the Pedipaws and would love to hear from someone who has it already.

I bought the Pedicure Professional since I have the Doberman too it works great on Patches since she is a long hair Doxie it is sorta tricky to hang on to the dog, the nail & the Pedicure. It is not as easy as it looks on TV but it just takes practice. The Peticure Professional is not holding up to Buddy's huge Thick nails Hubby had a Dremal out in the garage so it was fixed up for Buddy. I had a Dremal years ago with out the guard for my Bouviers did not work out at all due to all the hair a Bouvier has ripped out some hair once in awhile on them. I even tried the hosiery over the nail ripped off the hosiery so gave up on using it on the Bouviers. The Pedicure guard really, really helps with the Long hair have not gotten any of Patches long hair. What I have been doing is once a week on Mondays I grind on all the toe nails Patches & Buddy both. I just take off a little at a time the nails are slowly getting shorter and shorter I just do not want to quick them you can quick them if you stay on a nail too long, about 3 seconds a nail then go back to a nail if you need too. Just takes practice I'm sure I will get more confident in time. I do agree with the commercial about nail cutters hurting the dog the grinding seems to work better. If you go to Peticure.com they have videos to watch on how to do it I've watched them over & over not sure if the Pedipaws is a better product or not.The Professional Pet sitter that lives a couple of houses from me has helped me get started I watched her the first couple of times. My problem is I cannot get on the floor or in certain postions to hold the dogs due to some of my disability's. I have done the dogs the last couple of weeks the Pet sitter is going to come by Monday to see how I'm doing on the nails. It was costing me about $20.00 a month just to get nails done once so figured the Pedicure would be cheaper in the long run for me.Good Luck to one and all I just hate black toenails.

PS: Go very slowly when you introduce the Dremal to the dog lots of praise & treats also the Pet sitter said never let the dog win it also said that on the Peticure web site. 1st with it turned off start touching toes everyday one toe then add touching toes go slow.

I use a dremel now - and it works fine, so I probably won't look into this... but if your a first timer, it is probably a good investment !!!   I agree with Papbouv as to slowly get them used to it !

Thanks papbouv. I knew there was another one out there, too and couldn't remember the name of it. It was the Peticure. I think I just may have to do this in the next couple of weeks.

Just go slow I started just touching toenails and gave little treats before the peticure even came, then I showed it to them everyday with little treats, then I turned it on then off ( Patches did better than Buddy she gets a bath once a month then gets dried with the vacuum cleaner which makes a noise) Buddy wanted to run away he took longer. Then I touch one toenail treat, next day two toenails, backed up if they were having fits about it went even slower. Now I do all toenails on Monday since it gets hot pretty quick I only grind a little off at a time.I do them once a week that way they get use to it + you do not have to take off as much nail. I also have been trying different methods to hold them and the toenail I working on  just will take practice to see where the quick is & know when to stop.Good Luck I'm sure you will do fine. I still hate black toenails, all 26 of them.

I have a pet dremel that I use for Murphy-I sometimes use it on Winston and Reilly, but it makes me so nervous about the long hair that it gets transferred to them and they put up a fuss.  Murphy lies quietly for it and then he gets a pupperoni all for himself, so he gets very excited when we're almost done.  I've been debating the Peticure for awhile, but I honestly couldn't see how the hair doesn't just go into the hole and get pulled in just like the dremel?   I need to decide because I have to keep Millie's nails very short for show.  Papbouv, can you explain how it works regarding the hair?  I'm really having trouble visualizing how it keeps the hair out.

Theresa...I ordered a Peticure Petite which I have not recieved yet.  They are quite backordered and I expect it within the next few weeks.  I'll let you know how they handle it.
