Title: The Subject is Greenies!
Post by: Kelly on October 03, 2005, 08:12:03 PM
At a local fall festival a dog and cat store was there and had some greenies and I got some for Blusky&Manny.Do I let them chew the  whole thing until it's all gone? This is the first time I've tried them.Wish me luck.
They'll be a nice reward tomorrow after the 2 of them go to the vets and get poked(rabie shots)!
Have a good week everyone!Rays to all that need them.

We always gave Berman a small Greenie and he ate it till it was gone.  He choked once on a Dingo bone so we haven't given him Greenies since.  We get nervous when they get about the size of a pecan or so and he tries to swallow them whole!

Ellie does ok with the first half of a greenie ... denta bone or whatever .... while she can hold half with her paws and chew on the top half.
But when the Greenie or bone gets too small to hold and chew on at the same time she either gives up OR tries to eat the whole thing and sometimes chokes on it ... So, now I ALWAYS take the second half away from her.

I always hold Hallie's greenie while she chews it, she gets little pieces off and chews them. I still hold my breath until she gets the little pieces down but at least I know she isn't going to be able to swollow a huge chunk. I only let her get about 2 little chunks off at a time, after each meal hoping that will help keep her teeth clean.

My dogs love them but they've gotten sick when
they eat the whole thing.  So now I give them half of one.
The do much better & don't get sick or bored.

Greenies never bothered Cajsa's tummy and I would let her have an entire one to chew.  She'd eat it right down and never had a problem.  I'd stay where I could see her though just to be sure but I've never really been worried about her choking on one or anything.

I buy the Teenie size and let them have the whole thing.  so far, no one has gotten sick or choked on one.  The Teenie size is really small.  I found great prices on them at dog.com.

Hazel chews on the greenie and then can't get that last end piece down.  Plus she's choked on them a few times (scary!)

I saved a bunch of the end pieces and my husband drilled a hole through each one, strung them together with cotton string and tied the ends together. Hazel has a sort of greenie bracelet to munch on now.

Title: Greenies Lil' Bits!!
Post by: Eileen on October 10, 2005, 04:23:36 PM
I give the Teenie Greenie bones to Schnitzel and Strudel and Luther isn't sure what to do with a bone, poor baby, so I give him and Kleine the Lil' Bits.  That is just Greenies shredded into little bits.  Safer and easier for little bitty dogs.  I never give them the bones unless I am home, though, just in case.  The Lil' Bits are great, though, because you can sprinkle them on anything and the woobies will eat it.

Buelah refuses to do anything with a greenie but hide it .... usually under the sofa cushions.  Oscy likes them but he only eats half and I throw the other half away.
Toby had a greenie when he first came to us.  It made him really sick to his stomach.  Our vet said that they do have a tendency to upset some doggie stomachs so he will not get them anymore.  I suspect though, that he would be the one to try to swallow it whole!  Toby is working on the world record for weight gain!
