Nikki and the Houston gang here.  We are battening down our hatches and preparing to ride it out.  I have been thru many in the past and the area where I live is not being evacuated.  They are advising us to stay and "hunker down".  Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes!!

Thanks, Barb!  If we are without power long, I may take you up on that.  I had surgery 4 weeks ago, so although I am doing really well, I still have some concerns.  My BF came over today to put away all the patio furniture and help me ready the house.  Unfortunately, he also has a house and he needs to stay at his home as I need to stay at mine.  We aren't that far apart, so if needed he can make it over here in his truck (hopefully).

Brekke is sending smoochie kisses to Max and sibs!  Auntie Nikki - she and Robinton ask that while you are battening down those hatches, don't forget to tie down the treats so your starving quartet can get their rations!   Stay safe, anam cara!

What about Clarese and DFB? Are they in danger? I hope Ike is not part of Clarese's welcoming committee for Texas. Take care everyone.

Where Clarese and Cornbread are is pretty far inland and they should be fine.  They are more upper east Texas not coastal east Texas.  They will probably get some rain and strong winds as Ike moves inland, but they will be fine.

I have been watching the live video feed on FOXNEWS.com and let me tell you how horrible it looks in Galviston right now!! And then of course you get the people that didn't heed the warning and leave that are strolling along the waterfront waving and the wave are crashing over the traffic lights!! And why do then send a tiny weather woman/reporter out in this stuff? The poor lady could barely stand!! It just looks really bad. The news conference said that the eye would hit early morning, so middle of the night and that is not a good thing.  My uncle just emailed and informed me that he is going to be sent to Galviston for security patrol. He is still in Louisiana right now doing damage assesment for the Red Cross. I am praying for all of you in Texas to be safe. And Nikki hold on tight. Sounds like it is going to be a rough ride!! Please post when you can.

The news reports are getting scary in Galveston.  The coast guard is having to do some rescues already!   I'm just praying and hoping that everyone will be okay.     Stay safe Nikki!

my co-worker showed me that feed. The &()!__*@ was laughing: "isn't that funny?" she asked as we watched a house being destroyed.  "NO! It is NOT FUNNY! Those people are losing their homes."  I wanted to ask "WHAT kind of person ARE you?"  But I know she is a sick, self centered alcoholic, so it's not gonna register.
sending prayers to everyone in Ike's path.  Yikes.

Where I am in West Houston right now it is still fairly calm.  We get the occasional wind gusts.  They are saying that we should feel more toward midnight.  I am in a good spot for riding it out.  My neighborhood doesn't flood (previous hurricanes didn't flood us) and we are on the west or clean side, so we will just get more rain and wind, but should be fine.   I have a safe place in the house for us to hunker down and have food and water for all of us.  The puppers sense something and are a bit restless.  They will get outfitted in their harnesses soon and leashes will be kept handy should we need to scoot.  Thanks for all the prayers, rays and well wishes.  I will check in again later as I am able.   Nikki, Max, Lily, Gabbe and Minna

It looks like it's going to be a rough ride in Galveston.

Just checking in while I still have power.  I just lost my cable tv, but the internet still working...and they are with the same service.  Weird.  Anyway, blowing like crazy, power has flickered off and on once so far.  Hoping it stays on.  Dogs are barking everytime the wind blows really hard, which is about every 5 minutes or so.  Will check back in tomorrow if I have power!

Barb - let me know if you are unable to call her and check.  I should call and chat with her, anyway - although if I get through, it's sure to be abbreviated!

I hope she is okay. I'm sure she is without power. Right now I'm so angry that were asked to leave and stayed anyway (and this morning actually said it was "cool") and are now putting the lives of the rescuers at risk. I wonder what it will take for them to understand there is a reason they are asked to leave. The scenes from Katrina should have been enough to let them know what can happen when they choose to stay.

Prayers   and rays heading to all who live in the Gulf coast towns in Texas.  The news reports from Galveston are so scary.  Houston got hit pretty hard, too.

I pray everything is alright with Nikki.  Barb, how are things your way?  We are watching the weather channel and it appears that the center of rotation is very close to you.  Are you getting heavy rain and winds?

We have had mild rain most of the day and the wind has been gusty - probably not more than 25 MPH or so - I think the brunt of it is in east Texas......  I did errands this morning and we have been hanging out at home !

Hey, gang - I just talked to Nikki - we played phone tag today - and she finally has power again after 8 1/2 days!  She is heading for bed(8:26 p.m. her time), having gotten a/c again and hot water for a shower, and plans to catch up on the sleep she has missed, having only slept two or three hours at a time since the power went off...
