Title: And I was doing so well...
Post by: Teresa on August 26, 2008, 04:57:05 AM
I followed Meghan to Rock Hill, S.C. (near Charlotte, NC) this weekend and helped her finish moving in to her apartment there. She starts her classes today for grad school and will be there for two years. After that, she'll probably go somewhere besides Greenville, since the job potentials will be much better. I was fine this weekend. I was actually more emotional the first weekend we moved some of her stuff up there. I told her I thought it was harder since she had come back home for a year after being away for four years. I was fine yesterday. I talked with her last night and she had been to orientation for her job as a research assistant and loved it. Today she has orientation for the MSW program and will have classes and is really excited.
This morning I get out of the shower and get dressed and am heading to the kitchen and Schatzi stops at Meghan's door. She always has to go in Meg's room in the morning since she gets up after I do. I told her Meg wasn't there. Didn't work. Had to go in. She goes in and wants on her bed. She looked so, so sad. That did it. We decided we were both sad and missed her. I shed a few more tears. Schatzi rolled all over her bed. Meg will think it's sweet, at least.
For a funny side to all of this. Meg and Randy both have Mac laptops. They tried out the iChat feature yesterday. Randy said it was so funny when Meg called Schatzi name and Schatzi could see Meghan's face and hear her voice but couldn't see the rest of her!

It's so hard when the kids leave home, but that is the natural order of things.  That was so sweet that you and Schatzi shared that emotional moment.  Hugs to both of you.

:comfort: I can really relate on how you feel, and I'm betting that at some point you'll go to the fridge and that half bottle of soda you left there last night will still be there, waiting for you, and you will look up at the heavens and realize, "There IS a G-d!"

She'll be just fine - and so will you!

How true, Karen, how true. Randy is at the Fire Department tonight and Meg is away. I can have what I want for supper, or nothing at all. It isn't all bad, that is for sure!

I don't have kids so I don't know what its like when they leave the nest.  I bet its hard, and it IS a big change in your life and its bound to hurt.  But your job is done, and she will always be a part of your life if you did your job well, and it sounds like you did.  She'll be back.  Life goes on.....

Well, I had six kids and it ended badly.  Now I'm trying my hand with dachshunds and bunnies and, other than Mazal Tova-Angel, it is working out MUCH better!!  LOL!!
