My in-laws were over yesterday and we were sitting on the stairs of our deck watching Jessica play in the backyard. The puppers were sitting on the stairs as well. Like most decks, the stairs are open. Suddenly, I begin to hear a scratching sound. As I turn my head around, everything aft of Zora's shoulders had slipped through the back of the stairs and she was frantically trying to get back on. Problem is a dachshund is just too long for their little legs to get a grip on the stair. I was convinced that the rest of her was going to drop through. In a remarkable display of strength, Zora was able to hold on with her forepaws long enough to be rescued by my father-in-law and myself. Phew! Zora was no worse for the wear and quickly stretched herself back out in the sun.
Zora here:...and after all that, Dad squeezed my butt, chopped my toes and gave me a bath. Where's the sympathy?
That's scary David! Good girl Zora for hanging on till help arrived! David, we had a fairly high deck when we lived up North...high enough that I worried about Buelah falling through. Keith backed the stairs with lattice and that did the trick. I think it made her feel a lot more secure as well. Glad to hear that your girl is none the worse for it.... except the toes and bath thing.
That is horribly scary!!! I am so glad everything turned out okay....enclosing the stairs with lattice is a great idea :apls:
That is so scary!! Glad she is okay!
Wow - that is very scary. Sure glad all is ok.... and what the heck dad? She should have had treats insted of all dat other stuff !!!
That would be scary......can you just imagine the thoughts that were going through Zora's mind? Glad all worked out and that she was rescued with happy results!
That was sure a scary situation. Thank goodness for quick rescue. The poor girl should have gotten treats instead of chopped toes and a bath. Whats up with that!!!

We have the same issue with our deck and I'm always worried that this is going to happen! I'm glad to hear the only damage was a little scare for everybody!
Did you really chop Zora's toes after that

YES, HE SQUEEZED MY BUTT, CHOPPED MY TOES, AND WASHED ALL MY HAIRS! :meme:There is no justice in this world, is there Auntie Karen? :BangHead:
Now, now, honey, Uncle David loves you. It's for your own good. :comfort:
Yeah o.k. But I should at least get some eggies after my near-death experience!! :thinik:
Well, maybe you and Zeke will score this weekend. Practice your L@@K.
How scary! You and your FIL were quick to react. Good thing Zora has strong shoulder muscles to hold on! I'll bet she forgot about the experience long before you did.
LOL now Zora is visiting auntie Karen's avatar spot!
Gee whiz! It makes me glad I have a fairly flat yard and no deck at all. I have enough to worry about, even after giving my hot tub away! I am so very glad that Zora attracted your attention and had the fortitude to hang on! She got the bath so you could check her over for damage, right? :ambulance:
Yikes! Super scary! Good girl, Zora, for hanging on. Good job, men, for your quick rescue of Miss Zora.
Those steps always scare me. Even more than deck stairs are the ones you see in houses like that occasionally. I'm glad you were able to grab her quickly.
I love Zora's look in Karen's avatar. Once again, I get to have a great laugh before leaving this morning (and this is one morning I really needed that).
