Title: Rays needed....
Post by: TerriL on August 18, 2008, 10:41:22 AM
My daughter Retta is six months pregnant and started contracting on Saturday morning.  She is in the hospital and they have stopped the labor and she will be on bedrest, most likely until Baby Ben is born.  The good news is that he is not in any type of distress.  His heartrate is good and strong and steady.  We are not sure what happened but I suspect she may have been overdoing things a bit so perhaps this is a blessing in disguise.  She pretty much can get up to go to the bathroom and that is it.  She is hoping that she will be able to go home today but we shall see what the doctor says.  I think she just feels that she will be much more comfortable in her own home and in her own bed.  We are in the midst of a hurricane watch for tomorrow so I will be heading north on Wednesday. Fortunately I can work from anywhere and if she gets to go home I can stay for a week or so to help her.  So.....  any rays and prayers for Retta and Baby Ben would be much appreciated.  As most of you know, this is her first baby and she is just frightened right now.

Prayers will be said here. Having mom around will be a great relief for her. The main thing for her to do is listen to her doctor and really stay in bed. I have a friend who is an OB-GYN and she always says you would be amazed at what many mothers consider bed rest! I hope she does well and the contractions stay away until it is time for Baby Ben to arrive.

When I was pregnant with the twins, my doctor confined me to the hospital for a month before I gave birth.  She said, "I have a feeling that if I REALLY want you on bed rest, it only going to happen if you're not at home."

She was 100% right!  Of course, I had a husband, two children, two dogs and a cat at home, but somehow they all managed - except for Blossom, the beagle, who tunneled out of the back yard and was never seen again. :crybaby2:

Sending HHHHHH's & PPPP's for your daughter.  Hopefully she will obey the bedrest order and not try to do too much.
I know you will do your best while you are there to keep her behaving and it will make her feel more secure with you there.
Good Luck to you all!!!

Retta is home and I am with her.  She is doing better but will be on bed rest for the duration.  November is really not all that far away and I suspect she is enjoying the attention.  Her doctor has her on a drug called Breathine.... although I may have spelled it wrong.  The first two days were tough as it made her very shaky and made her heart feel like it was racing.  She has adjusted to it now and she is feeling much better.  Thanks for all the rays and prayers everyone.... it is so appreciated!  I'll be going home on Sunday if she is doing well and heading back up a few weeks after that again.

If she doesn't know how already, this is a great time to learn to knit! Lots of baby blankets to make and maybe a sweater or two! The hardest thing will be trying to find something to fill the days when no one is around. At least she can look forward to you coming back up there soon.
