Title: Just an update and to say hi
Post by: laura*romeos*mommy on August 11, 2008, 03:07:07 PM
Hi all just wanted to stop by and say hi and thanks for the warm welcome and kind words and thoughts for my loss I sure appreciate it.  If you could all keep me in your thoughts and prayers this weekend the 17th (Sunday) is the 2nd year angel date since I lost my son so it will be hard for me.  I am glad I have my new baby though he has been such a comfort and help.  He is such a mamma's boy just like my son is.  We are finally getting him potty trained what a job  :apls: he finally went poop poop outside we are getting him into a routine and that seems to be helping with stuff.  He is finally getting use to everything now and what is going on around the house.  He is so much fun I just love him so much and so happy we got him.  Thanks for letting me share and thanks again for the welcome and prayers for my hurting heart.
hugs and love laura

Hi Laura - You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  Hope your little Romeo helps to comfort you.  There is nothing like puppy kisses.

Hugs,
Annie

Thank you both so much and yes you are right I just love when I go home and pick him up from my mom and dads and get tons of kisses it just warms my heart  :hkiss:  he is just so perious.  I do have a question though if either of you or anyone else can help.  I have been taking him to my mom and dads (aka grandma and grandpa) because it is just me and Chris (hubby) at home and they are having a hard time with potty training, they take him outside and he just won't go but when they take him inside he goes.  Any suggestions for this.  Also we were thinking about how it would be to leave him alone during the day and not take him over there which do you think would be better????? I am going to take him to work with me tomorrow because I have a real kicked back job and maybe I am hoping to maybe bring him here everyday.  So can anyone help with all of this???? Thanks so much and thanks for the support
hugs and love laura

Hi Laura, I would try a puppy pad for the little guy.  Or take him to work with you, it would be a shame to leave him at home alone.
I'm glad to hear that Romeo is a comfort to you.

I would provide your parents with a kennel and if it is time, and he has not done his duty outside, he should go into the kennel for about 5 minutes and they should try again until he goes.  The kennel will prevent him from going in the house.  Especially if he goes right away when he comes back in.  Treats are a vital part of the process too.  When he does go outside have them give him a treat and praise praise praise.  We had problems with our younger boy when trying to train him.  He would do the same thing.....  walk around outside and then go as soon as he would come inside the house.  He would tear the puppy pads up and would not use them for their intended purpose.  The kennel worked best for us and it took about 2 days for Smokey to catch on that if he did not do his business outside he would wait in the kennel.  The first day it took about 5 or 6 trips back to the kennel and then he just had to go and when he went outside we all danced and praised him and he got a treat.  Second day it took 2-3 trips back to the kennel and then it just clicked and he would go outside then expect a treat immediately upon doing his business.

This is coming from someone who made the mistake of not sticking with the crate (kennel)- Use the kennel! Just be sure he isn't in there all the time ( I had issues about that with my brother, but their stupid vet was the reason behind it). You can also use a lead to keep him attached to your waist so you always know where he is. We used puppy pads and they worked well, and amazingly when we moved to a place with a doggie door 4 years later, Schatzi switched to going outside easily.
With a weekend coming up, this could be a good time to try the crate at home, first.
