That maks SIX woodchucks we caught this year (she had five youngens.) Just in time to let the Loki off leash in the backyard a few minutes at a time. Just gotta fill in the four giant holes and check the OP. SIX my friends. (we think the daddy might have been killed when they did some backhoe work next door, but we can't rule him out yet.) I love critters, but dag it, Loki was just itchin' to whoop some hog's butt!
Wow. That is a lotta hawgs! Don't you hate that when you have a doxie supposed to be taking it easy! (right!) Hallie is getting a whole new fence right now and we're trying to make it along the top so it will be harder for cats to sit up there which is what gets my child going, racing out barking. The neighbor cat lays on the fence sometimes in the morning when Hallie goes out for the first time, though isnt impressed when Hallie rushes at her and will just stay up there, with her face turned the other way as Hallie is racing and barking...Hallie will now stop about 6 feet from the fence, turn her back to the cat and take a dump, kick her feet out and strut back to the house without looking back.
Hopefully there will be no more of the guys in your yard, I've never even seen a woodchuck IRL!
They're now making these strips of what looks like upside down nails, to keep squirrels, birds and cats from the tops of fences and other places where you don't want them nesting. Check out vermontcountrystore.com and see if they have, or gardinerssupply.com

I'd love to have those strips! But I already had looked into those and wouldn't you know they aren't legal in my town! (neither is razor wire or 16 foot fences I checked LOL).
Picket fence with real sharp points and no where for little cat feet to walk...
Pickets are great, I have a picket fence in the front but the cats walk right thru it. The back yard is the one getting the makeover and it needs to be 6 foot and solid, I don't let Hallie in the front yard alone because the pickets are only about 4 feet high and a dog could jump in...or could stick it's head between the pickets to her...or aliens could beam her up...or....my mind can run rampant lol! I rarely even let her into the back yard without me with her or at least in sight of me, even with the 6 ft solid fence no wonder I have anxiety issues.
I think Dianne's idea may be to have the fence solid, still, but have the top of the boards pointed the way a picket fence would be. If you do that it would be hard for a cat to lay on the top. May be worth a try at least. I hope you figure out something. Right now I just want to keep the neighbor's cat from sleeping under my birdfeeder!
Ohhhh I'm a little slow on the uptake! That IS a good idea...do they make 6 ft with pointy tops or would someone have to cut each one out? (I need 550 boards to go around the back yard and I already have over 300 with about 200 stained so too late to buy all new but wondering if there is a way to get the pointy tops easily?). I guess we could always cut out a very slight point, I wouldn't want it too deep because I'm going from a lattice top fence, to a solid one to get more privacy and if we cut a deep point people could still see in at the base of the points, but a slight one might work. Also talking about putting a thin board across the top horizontally that is beveled with pointy side up. Thanks for the idea I'll talk to them about that!
WHOA, THERE L'IL LADIES - THAT'S CALLED A STOCKADE FENCE!!
They sell 'em at Home Depot in 8 foot lengths and six foot heights. So put down the saw, Missy, you might hurt yerself! :idiot:

That's what I'd like to know.
I guess we should just be thankful we don't have woodchucks! :thumb:
