Chrissie who owns Dauber and Cody (she lives in Washington state) needs your help with rays for Dauber. He is 15 yrs old and started having problems last week. His face swelled up, and they took him to the emergency vet. They found something in his gum, probably a stinger. He got Benadryl and went home. Then his throat started swelling, and he was having a hard time breathing. They took him back and thought it may be an infection - so antibiotics and pills. He still wasn't good the next day, so they took him to their regular vet.
Fluids and all kinds of tests, more benadryl and steroids. By the end of the day he was breathing better and they were able to take him home (last night). I just got an e-mail from Chrissie - Dauber is much worse this morning. His tongue is swollen and he can't eat or drink - they are feeding him with a syringe. They are waiting for blood reports from the vet to see if they tell anything. Also, the areas under his chin are now knots.
Chrissie is scared that he is going to get worse..... but lets get some powerful rays going and pray the vet comes up with something to help him.
I will keep you posted.... Thanks everyone.
This is sweet Dauber.....

UPDATE FROM CHRIS:
Good news I think. The blood work came back with slightly elevated red blood cells. Otherwise, the vet said Daubie was in really good health. They strongly believe he got stung or bit and want us to give 24 â€" 48 hours for the meds to work before any stupid decision is made. I’m all over it, we’ll take tomorrow off and take care of him. Feed him every hour if we have to, to keep up his strength.

Thanks to you and everyone on the board. I’ll try to log-in later. Isn’t that a wonderful picture of Daubie!
Chris

If you want any Nutra Cal, let me know via e-mail or on the board. I bought two tubes and Guinness hates the stuff!

Chrissie update - 12:30 Pacific time - Friday 7/18
Well, the two lumps under Dauber’s chin have formed into one hard lump.   Whatever it is seems to be in his lymph nodes. It’s really weird being so hard you would think that Dauber wouldn’t be able to breathe. The vet said as long as he’s eating and drinking water he will be ok. They figure it will take several days for the abscess or whatever it is to go away. He ate quite a bit of soft canned food mixed with chicken broth (thanks Barb). This morning Bruce mixed his meds up with dog food but we couldn’t get Dauber to eat at 5:30 am (me either). We did get him to eat some of it later but he didn’t like the taste to turned his nose up. We called the vet who said to re-dose him only ¼ dose just in case. He’s been resting until a little while ago. I gave him some small pieces of turkey and he actually jumped up to get at it, wow. Also after he ate the dog food with broth, he went to the rug and rubbed his face with his front legs down and butt up. If his throat was that sore or hurt I don’t think he could have done that. Well, that’s all I have right now. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Thanks so much for caring.
It's good to know he is starting to do better. Sounds like Dauber may need to try some of the Greenies Pill Pockets to take his medicine with!
Just saw this rays acoming, he is a looker.

Update from Chrissie Sunday morning.....
Dauber is so much better we can’t believe it. He still has the mass under his chin but it seems to be softening up and getting smaller. Thank God for those good meds. He is eating, drinking, wagging his tail, barking, his eyes are really bright and his nose is wet. Whew, that was a horrible experience.
We’re going to stay home with them today and take it easy.
Thanks again for all of your love and support.
All of our love to you and your family from all of us,
Hi everyone,
We've just rejoined the board and will try to figure out how to post a picture later.
The best news (thanks for Barb for keeping all of you current) is that Dauber is definitely getting better. He has never eaten a bee, spider or any other bug that we know of and has never had this type of swelling before.
Do all of you remember Cody, the little southern Georgia dachshund we adopted through Wiener Writings, Candy, Ellen and Barb 5 years ago? He is doing fine and has been such a good friend to Dauber through all of this. Cody just took a silver medal at the Long Beach WA, 2nd Annual Doggie Olympics. We entered him in the Luciano Pavarotti Commemorative Sing-off and he sang and sang!
Anyway, thanks to all of you for your strong rays and good thoughts coming to our Dauber. It worked!
Chrissie
We will keep them coming, he is a stunner and a fighter.

Wow, Chrissie & Dauber - sorry I missed this! I had also the pleasure of meeting Dauber at DD's 2001 bowwow. Glad to hear he is better, and will begin sending northbound rays...
So glad to hear he is doing so much better!!
Post from Chrissie this morning -
Around 1:00 am the abscess popped from the inside through a small hole in Dauber’s throat. He bled some, but not a lot with us watching him and wiping off the blood. The abscess went completely away, he stopped bleeding and we all went back to sleep (or tried to!). When we got up he was just like the old Dauber. The vet said we will keep him on antibiotics through this week and probably another week just to make sure he doesn’t get an infection. The vet still believes it was an allergic reaction to some kind of a sting whether it was from inside his mouth or stung on the throat. I am so thankful that he’s back!!!
Wonderful news!!
Yay, Daubie!!! Glad to hear it was a minor incident.
