This morning when I let Zoe out to potty we did our walk around the yard. When we came to Oreo's kennel with his crate inside, I noticed him laying down in the crate. My poor bunny had died during the night. We had a storm last night but he was well protected in his kennel which hubby had built a nice top for and we had the sides protected. He had plenty of ventilation and even though yesterday was hot, there was a nice breeze all day. Hubby did mention last night that he did not eat much of his food yesterday and had not eaten his raisins (which bunnys can eat and he absolutely loved). Maybe he was sick? When the weather is warm, he usually does not eat as much as he normally does but I always made sure he had plenty of water.... When hubby picked him up this morning he did mention to me that the raisins were gone, so apparently he did eat them. I am at a loss as to what happened to my baby bunny. So, the Anderson clan is missing our littlest member today......Ms. Zelda, do rabbits have a special place they go to like Rainbow Bridge? I did not think I would take it this hard but after all, he was my fur-child and a member of our family.
Very sorry for your loss Cheryl. I am sure there is a special plave for Orea. And that is not counting the special place in your heart. Many rays and prayers from your BFF in Nebraska. I will be thinking of you today!!
I'm so sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter what type of furkid it is, they all are loved and have special places in our hearts and families. We are thinking of you and sending hugs your way.
Oh no Cheryl! I am so sorry. And even worse when it's so sudden. It's hard not knowing what was wrong but it does sound like Oreo may have been ill, I'm sure it was nothing you did! I had 2 pet bunnies and they seem so fragile with their health. Was he a dutch by any chance just wondering with the name Oreo...
I have to admit I have always hated the concept of "rainbow bridge". I believe our furkids go straight to heaven and wait for us there where everyone is together, no matter how many legs they have. I don't beleive God would give us such a huge love for our furkids and then deny us eternity with them.
How is Zoe doing?
Dee Dee, I am not sure what type of bunny Oreo was....we saved him from the Doxies when he was a little bitty baby. Somehow he had gotten into our yard from somewhere.....we never could find his owner. He may have been an "Easter Present" to a child. We don't know. He was solid black with white around his neck. He was very cute! I hope and pray it wasn't anything we did. I try to be so careful.
As for Zoe, she seems to be back to 100%, thank goodness....as spunky as ever! I keep my fingers crossed every day. Thank you for asking about her.
Oh, Cheryl! So, sorry to hear about Oreo bunny... Sending some rays to you, and EmmyLou sends some kisses.... :comfort:
I am so, so sorry that Oreo passed away. A few thoughts:
Rabbits are notoriously fragile. They can go from totally healthy to dead in less than 24 hours.
The average age is 8-10 years. Since you don't know how old Oreo was, it could have been old age.
Mazal is also all black with a white collar, with white paws and a white nose and flash up the forehead.
Oreo could have also died of fright. Imagine sleeping, quietly minding your own business and a cat pounces on your cage. Rabbits are also notorious for droppin dead of fright.
I always thought the rainbow bridge WAS in heaven - and every animal who has ever been loved by a human soul is waiting there to meet up.
Oreo will be waiting.
Karen
RIP Oreo I'm sure there is a place for rabbits too at Rainbow Bridge sorry for your loss.
Papbouv
Cheryl,
All of the above from the others, I believe all we love and loose will be waiting for us, it would be easier not to have loved, but as humans we do not. Oreo was beloved and wanted and will be waiting for you and Zoe

So sorry to hear about little Oreo.
Last night my Aussie, Sheba, wanted out about a half hour after hubby had let her in (around 4am). I let her out to go pee and she disappeared toward the back of the yard where the bunny kennel and crate are. I called....no Sheba....I called....no Sheba....which is highly unlikely for her. I got my flashlight to see what was going on.....I heard the sound of our fence or possibly the kennel "rattle" and a high pitch kinda "whine or growl" coming from the back of the yard.....I yelled for Sheba to come and she came trotting up to me. I flashed the flashlight toward the back of the yard and could not find any type of animal, etc. in the yard. I am thinking Sheba knew the animal was out there and that is why she wanted out. I believe it was possibly a raccoon in the back of the yard... who maybe climbed over the kennel into the front top opening and was trying to get at the rabbit pellets in the bowl in the crate (I haven't had the heart to touch or remove anything yet). Or get into the closed container that stores the pellets and raisins in them? Maybe a raccoon scared my little Oreo to death? Tonight I am going to get out in my yard and "stake it out" for a nasty raccoon who is definitely coming into a war zone area that he really doesn't wanna be in!!!!!!!!!! I definitely AIN'T MESSIN AROUND!!!!!!
