Which Breed Of Dog Is Most Aggressive?
Study Finds Dachshund To Be Most Aggressive Breed

They may not look as threatening as some of the larger canine, but research revealed that the dachshund is the most aggressive breed of dog.
Citing a study published by Applied Animal Behavior Science, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported that one in five dachshunds has bitten or tried to bite strangers, and one in 12 has shown aggression toward its owners.
The study involved researchers from the University of Pennsylvania. About 6,000 dog owners were questioned about their dogs' behavior. Thirty-three breeds were ranked on their aggression.
Ranking below the dachshund was an even smaller dog, the Chihuahua. According to the newspaper, research found that the tiny breed often snaps at most beings it encounters -- including its owners, strangers and other dogs.
The Jack Russell terrier was third, followed by the Akita and the Australian cattle dog. The pit bull was sixth, followed by the beagle, the English springer spaniel, the border collie and the German shepherd.
The Telegraph reported that researchers said previous studies on canine aggression could have been misleading as most bites from smaller dogs were not reported. According to the researchers, bites from larger dogs were more likely to require medical attention than those from smaller dogs.
According to the Telegraph, the Rottweiler, which is widely believed to be an aggressive dog, scored average to below average ratings for its hostility toward strangers.
The newspaper reported that some of the lowest scoring breeds for aggression included the Basset hound, golden retriever, Labradors, Siberian huskies and greyhounds.
I will agree that doxies can be aggressive to strangers because of feirce loyalty. BUT THEY BEAT OUT THE PITBULL!?!?!?!?!
I think it's a lack of obedience training by owners because they are "so small and cute and really can't hurt anyone." Great job, morons, thanks for giving the breed a bad name because you coddle snarling and snapping tantrums. Does anyone watch "it's me or the dog"???
ok fellow doxee lovers start posting!! I know this article will ruffle some feathers . . . .

I think you are right that people don't understand their dogs.
When Guinness meets someone, he give his "Charging Stranger" bark - a low WOO-WOO-WOO (all right, not low, but lower for him!).
Once the person and I am talking, he circles us yipping, because a)he's short and doesn't want to get stepped on -"I'm right here, I'm right here!" and b) he wants to be picked up and be part of the interaction.
When the Animal Control Inspector came to the house to approve my permit request, he tried to pet Guinness with his pen. He nearly got his hand taken off! Smart move, Guinny, bite the Dog Catcher!! I still can't get over an Animal Control Inspector trying to do that to a dachshund!

I got this the other day in my email and I am sure it's true but it's not the dogs fault. As a foster mom I can tell you when I get bit I have done something wrong. When someone else gets bit in my pressece it's my fault.
But I usually do not know what has happened to the pups before they come into my home.
I also know that most small dog bites don't get reported.
Oh yes!! :meme: Beware the deadly Doxie!! tear you in half they will! :apls:
prolly have more trouble with tripping over them and skinning your knee...
just don't tease em or poke at em and you will likely be fine.
There are proper ways to greet any dog.... that Inspector should have known that...
Wonder if there is a "Rottie Writings" for such cute, huggable, gaurd dogs or Pit Tales..... yeesh
I never had an agressive dog, won't stand for it! :apls:
Sue I agree with you when dogs get aggressive the owner may be and probably is at fault. When I first got Sam Angel he tried to bite me when we got back to the house from picking him up. Then a couple weeks later he tried it again, but I realized that it was the way I had approached him to pet him. Well, when I talked to his never mom a few days later she asked if he had bitten anyone yet and I told her that he had attempted to nip me but it was my fault for doing something that scared/annoyed him. Her response was whatever, he was just a menace. I later learned that he wasn't given up because he was aggressive as she had stated but because her mom paid attention to the dog and not to her granddaughter.
Eddie says "Yeah I'm really aggressive I'll hug, cuddle, lick you to death."
yes to all you Amy nipped our neighbor and friend David once, but he said it was his fault as he should never have opened the front fly screen and came in with out us being there, as she was only defending her house, we had only had a a week or two, David now bangs on the wire and waits and gets licked to death.

These little monsters that they call Dachshunds are very smart and very opinionated!!! After having had many differend breeds of dogs, my favorite will always be the Little German Tanks. They know when you are not taking the lead role and will step in if necessary to be the lead. You have to be firm with them and teach them that they are not in control. Other breeds i have had will tend to look to you as the human to be the lead and will not try to take the lead from you as much as this breed does. These little generals are ready to grab that leadership role at any time. It is their intelligence that makes them such loveable dogs. It is the owners who do not know how to lead their dogs that causes the uncontrolled aggression. I love the doxie personality but it takes a strong owner for them to reach their full potential.
OOPS!! :verdict: my brain and my fingers do not seem to be connected or my mind is on food but I do know the difference between roll and role!!! :doah:
:dontknow: O.K., I tried to let this go by, but I just couldn't help myself:

My Roadster goes every where with us. That's why his name is Roadster. He rides in our Miata. He has been very well socialized. He is a male and on the aggressive side. Very protective of me. He will not bother any one. He minds his own business, but doesn't like strangers, until he gets to know you. I have been told by some long time owners of the breed, the males are worse. They have no fear. Your right, they are like little "German Tanks". I have never had such a loyal, fearless little dog. I also believe they are very intelligent, maybe that is why they are considered aggressive.

Whenever I take Merlin and Beau in the car, they will lunge at a)drivers of the car in any other lane, and b) anyone walking along the sidewalk.
Since I got them as adults with this little quirk in their personality, I don't take them very often. All my energy with them is spent getting them to behave sociably at home.

With all the traveling we do with our Car Club, Roadster is very independent. He rides in my Miata better then most people would, with top down of course. I have had people lunge at him screaming what an adorable little dog, he will bite, he almost got that moron. Who in their right mind would reach down and try to pet a dog they don't know? I have taken him into crowds of people, and he is the perfect gentleman. Most people will ask if he is friendly, and I have to say, no he isn't. I don't think they are a real trusting breed.

Hi! I'm back !!!!
We heard about the article while on vacation. We spend most of the weekend teasing family members, warning them that the dozing pile of fur called Ozzy would most likely wake up suddenly and chew everyone's face off!!
Oz will get aggressive if he senses danger, but the most aggressive thing he normally does is lick you to death!!!
The 50th wedding anniversary party for my parents went off just fine. We had to set out extra tables to accommodate the crowd. The cakes turned out great, and my Dad was surprised with his groom's cake, decorated with the Green Bay Packers logo. The chocolate fountain was a hit as well.
I don't think its the 'MALE' thing I think having had a very ALPHA short hair, and the rest long hairs, I have always seen Emma and other short hairs to be a bit more what they are calling "in your face" Amy, Ingird, Angus and Oliver still don't like the stranger thing etc but not to the extent The Divine MS Em was, and the Wires seem to be very mellow.
Plus I think with people reaching down to them to pat them they see as a threat, with the hand going over their head.

Just like my Irish Setter of many years ago, Becky-Angel or "Utz-A-Puppy" as we called her - champion licker!
