OMG!  Thank you for the birthday wishes!

Leopold is doing quite a bit better.  This steroid seems to be doing much more for him than the Rimadyl.  Sorry I can't recall the name of it right now.  He is using the back leg and putting weight on it.  He is more active and much perkier.  He has had what we call his 'roid rages.  Poldie is not vicious, but he does get aggressive in a bold, funny way.  He is demanding even when not on meds, but now he is literally barking out more orders and and when we do not hop to it immediately he huffs in exasperation.  He the steroids make him drink and eat more, and when bowls are empty he shoves them around the kitchen floor, instead of just giving us "the look."

I think Poldie's recovery would benefit more if he could get a break from Boone.  Although Boone can lap sit or lay around for ages, suddenly a switch goes on, disturbing some of his few functioning brain cells, and he is off.  Whenever Boone does move it's at full speed, and God help Poldie if he is on Boone's path.  Boone came close to jumping on Leopold again last night, and actually did crash into Pold twice when running across the room.  Mind those are just the collisions we witnessed--who knows how much Boone has battered Poldie?

On the other hand, Skeeter is very concerned about Leopold's well being and checks him over carefully and looks after him.  The other night she even let Leopold use her bed, even that meant he was in her bed with HER rubber chicken!

I had posted in another thread that when my Rudy has had his several episodes with his back that Rimadyl didn't help him.  He was put on prednisone (a steroid) and that is what helped. I don't think the Rimadyl was strong enough.  Probably the same with Poldie.

Boone sounds like a loose cannon !!! HA !!!  Get that boy to the dog park to run around - hee hee !!!

Do you keep Poldie in a crate during the day when you are not home?  I just hope that Boone doesn't run over him and keep aggrevating his leg.

My Rudy will bulldoze over Brandy if she is in the way - I have seen him even try to jump over her - this is normally when he is chasing a toy and NOTHING stops him !!!!  I normally make Brandy sit right by me so she doesn't get ran over !!!!

Give that boy and his siblings some smoochies for me....have a good birthday !

We keep the kids in our smallest bedroom when we are not home.  There is room to walk but not run.  Boone is kept in a crate in that room becasue he was chewing carpet and blinds due to separation anxiety.  At least I know Poldie is not bulldozed while we are away.

We have a fenced yard, so Boone can run around safely whenever he likes--and often does!

Happy Birthday Jeri!
When Misty had her back problem, Rimadyl wasn't enough either.  A muscle-relaxer and Prednisone did the trick however.  Plus restricted activity.
