ALTON, Ill. -- An Illinois woman said her beloved miniature dachshund gnawed off her right big toe while she was asleep.

Linda Floyd told the Alton Telegraph for a story Wednesday that her beloved Roscoe was euthanized because of safety concerns.

The 56-year-old said she has no feeling in her toes because of nerve damage from diabetes. She discovered the toe missing after waking from a nap Monday. She called her daughter, who phoned 911.

A veterinarian said the toe had been bandaged because of a healing hangnail. That might have somehow attracted the dog.

If ya ask me, that poor dog was put down because her owner wouldn't buy her any chew bones.

sheesh...some people

I saw this and started to post it here, but thought it was just too sad and ridiculous. I'm sorry for the owner, but sorrier for the dog. I think there must be more to this story....

Feel sorry for the dog depending on the condition of the foot the dog might not have chewed it off it may have fell off. I worked as a Nurses Aide for 31 years I was bathing a patient from a Nursing home he had the surgical hose on when I took the hose off to bathe his legs his toe fell off. I had not even started washing his legs & feet he was also a diabetic of course, I went & told his nurse right then.Guess it is a good excuse to get rid of the dog a true dog lover would not have put their dog down for something that might have happened. Of course they may have had an old time remedy on her foot or toe Honey for one and the dog was going after that??? Honey has been used on wounds for years & years of course that may not have been mentioned.

The article was in the Newspaper here her age was 56 it was a Minnie Doxie did not give an age of the Doxie still think it is a load of bull. The article said the Doxie was aggressive the woman woke up saw the toe gone called her daughter and 911. ??? Still think they should have put it in rescue or something besides putting it down weird people in this world.

Definitely a bizarre and sad story.   I know when I've had various wounds, the dachshies definitely pay attention to them.   I just can't see a dog munching on a hooman's toe, though.
