Title: Eddie the bird wrangler
Post by: Marcia from MI on June 28, 2008, 06:31:33 AM
This happened a couple weeks back but I just haven't had the time to post it.

One day in the late afternoon I was going to run out to the store, so I went to let Eddie in.  However the dear boy refused to come in, he had more important things to do like checking out something by the back porch.  No matter how much I called, threatened, bribed Eddie still refused to come in.  Finally I physically went out there to see what was demanding so much attention.  Every time I would try to get Eddie to move toward the ramp he would move further behind the plants.  Listening I didn't hear a  thing except the snuffling coming from my boy.   Knowing it was either a large bug, frog or heaven forbid a mouse I cautiously approached the plant and moving it aside what do you think emerged?  A baby bird, yes Eddie had been trying to move the baby bird out into the open so his mom could find him.

After the bird came out into the open Eddie went up to it and kind of nudged it forward, the baby wasn't too happy but obliged.  Now this bird was a fledgling and had not yet learned how to fly but it was giving it the old college try.  Since the grass was long(not cut that week yet) I picked up the baby and moved it to the middle of the yard where it happily ran to its tree all under the watchful eye of mom.   And yes mother and baby were united.

Poor Eddie for days he couldn't figure out what happened to "his" baby bird.  But now he has forgotten it due to those pesky skwerls that have invaded the neighbors yard.

Eddie, that was so very nice of you to find the baby bird and make sure it was reunited with it's momma.  My two would have tossed it back and forth and had feathers hanging from their mouths from a nutritious breakfast!!!!  Kudos to you sweet boy and your momma :headbang:

Eddie only likes to eat possums and woodchucks - not kidding.  Today he was outside and I was standing at the back door watching him and I spotted both a squirrel and our bunny in the yard.  When I told Eddie he looked at me did his business and came in the house.  No squirrel for Sunday dinner I guess.
