Title: Any other Double Dapples?
Post by: Katie on September 27, 2005, 04:33:20 PM
Hey there!  I am the proud owner of two rescue doxies - Nellie is a red brindle puppy mill rescue who was used as a breeder and kept outside 24/7 in a wire cage, and Blue is a double dapple who was born deaf and with pupil problems.

I was wondering if anyone else here has a double dapple, and if so, do yours have any of the typical problems associated with that pattern?

Thanks!!

Katie

My Boone is a double dapple, has blue eyes, and is deaf.  He seems to see ok.  We adopted him in March.  He spent 8 years in a kennel : (

Poor guy...8 years in a kennel.  :(

I'd love to see photos of your pups if you have any!  Blue is my avatar, and I'll poke around for some more pics of he and Nellie.

My Daisy Mae is a double dappled long hair!!  She is the love of my life!!  She does have one eye that is smaller than the other and that the 3rd eyelid has not receeded all the way and covers half the eye (the vet still isn't sure if she is blind in that eye or not) and they both have a blue rim around them.  The good eye does have a white shadowy spot on it (I call it her dapple spot).  She is black/tan and white all over...  She is in the picture to the left with my daughter (I know it's small but all my other pictures are too large to post here).....  She was from a breeder - her original owner found out that she might be blind in one eye and decided he no longer wanted her so I snatched her up (she was the one I wanted from the beginning)!!!

Aww, what a cutie!

Both of Blue's eyes are normal size, but his pupils are off-center (subluxated) and one is very small and sort of star shaped.  He doesn't see well at all in dim light, but gets around fine during the day or with lights on at night.  He also has a very severe heart murmur which the vet isn't sure if it's from the double dapple genetic problems or not.  He's the happiest little dog though and doesn't know he's at all different.

Hi I am proudly owned by Tofu, he's a double dapple and a Dachshund Rescue of North America rescue. He came from the humane society as a vicious dog. He has no problems  from being double dapple at this time. We are very lucky. I don't know if they can develop with time or not? He been with us for 3 years and he's 4 years old.
