This week was interesting to say the least. The little boy I am watching this summer has seizures and is on medication for it. His parents informed me when I got to their house on wednesday that he had had an episode over the weekend. Thinking it was a seizure I said "Oh No!!" They then told me it wasn't a seizure, but that he overdosed on his seizure medication last Friday. Yikes!! They said he woke up from his nap stumbling all over like he was drunk and falling down a lot. He was also very confused so his mom and dad rushed him to the ER.
They asked how much medication he was taking etc.... Then they informed his parents that he was taking 3 times the maximum amount he could handle!! Gives me a lot of confidence in the local doctors when they would prescribe medication like that for a four year old!! :cussing: The poor little guy was stumbling and really grouchy all week. They fixed his dosage but said it would take a few weeks to a month to get his levels back to normal. So, we could be dealing with the moodiness all month! He is usually a quiet, sweet little boy, but since his levels are all messed up he wants to sleep a lot and get angry really easily. I hate seeing him like this, I can't imagine how hard it is on his mommy.
So..make sure you ask your pharmacist and do your own research on any medication a doctor prescribes you. You can never be too careful with that kind of thing.
