Thanks you guys I just can't take this anymore! This happened in Jan then again in Feb and now again in May...with 6 weeks rest each time. Is this typical at all for doxies with bad discs to have this happen so frequently? I am exhausted and at my wits end I can't stand to see her hurting (this morning she went to roll upright and started screaming, I was on the phone with Delia at the time who got to hear it). I have all my bags packed and was heading up to the neurologist but he isn't in until Tuesday and the ER staff would be the ones to take the MRI and the Dr probably wouldn't be doing the surgery if need be. My vet called me before I left and talked me out of going I also called another vet and they said to give her pred and tramadol which I am.
Today she slept a lot and doesn't look totally comfortable but at least no more screaming. I sat with her almost the entire day in the front yard in the shade in a small x pen. I tried to get some work done from in there so she could be outside. Right now she's in a crate next to me and whining a bit and moaning a bit and laying in a wierd position for her (the whining is because she'd like to get out I'm sure).
I just can't see doing this every month or two...I am wondering if the first neuro is right about the dilated spinal cord or if it's just the same disc keep acting up. No way to know without MRI. I feel like crap physically to no sleep last night didn't help. We were both fine until Jan of this year then we both fell apart
Thanks for letting me vent, I'm just at my wits end with all this today my poor baby girl!!! She is too sweet for this crap...
Dee Dee....I feel so rotten about hearing this again with Hallie. All I can tell you is that on Dodgers when someone tried conservative treatment on their babies for a bad disc....if the problem kept recurring over and over again.....then it was time for an MRI and surgery. Dag gonit...it does seem too that things like this happen on a holiday or after hours....hang in there until you can get Hallie to her regular vet or specialist who can do the MRI and surgery if need be. Meanwhile just try and keep her comfortable on the pain meds and keep her confined and as still as possible. I am not sure if it is the same disc acting up again and again (it could be) or like you, if it is the dialated spinal cord....only an MRI will tell you exactly what is going on inside. Poor baby girl...and poor you....please try and stay calm and hang in there. Hallie and you are both too sweet for this crap....neither one of you deserve to be going through all this. Hang in there please. Healing rays and get well wishes are being sent to both of you at this time. If you need to talk....just PM me with your phone number and I will give you a call. We are all here for you and Hallie. :comfort:  :comfort:
Please try to be calm know it is hard but you do not want Hallie picking up on how upset you are makes it harder on her because she does not want her momma upset. I hope you can keep the pain under control with the meds you have on hand if not do you have a emergency vet that might give her a pain shot might last longer and maybe stronger just until Tuesday you can have the MRI done should tell you all what is going on with her, Until she has the MRI you cannot make a informed decision about her well fare. Rays & Hugs to you both
Lov
Papbouv
Patches & Buddy
To both you misses, stay calm and i think as the others say get the MRI and THEN make an educated decision. We were given valium also when they sent Amy home on her fateful night, maybe it would be more effective on both of you. As the others have said they pick up on it.
Love you both heaps Da gang
Oh DeeDee,,, how we feel for you both here....
We were hoping/praying for better news...
But, I guess the good news is still to come eh! :angel4:
Be strong for your little one,, dogs are tough critters, she got better before and she will again! :apls:
Just give her that calm strength that tells her not to fret..
You've got good Dr.s on your side and I'm sure things will work out for the best
I wish there was more we could do....
I'm weary of wishing and sending rays,, but I ain't gonna stop! :comfort:
Hang in there DeeDee..
I know you will!
Dee Dee, I hate this for Hallie and I hate this for you. I also hate it happening on a holiday weekend. My gut feeling says it is a disc and if that's the case, then surgery will take care of it and you can be assured that Hallie won't have to deal with this type of pain anymore. I was wondering, also, if your vet could give her a shot of anything or would that interfere with anything they may need to do on Tuesday.
I know telling you to keep calm is asking the impossible. She is your baby and your life. I know how I felt with Schatzi last Sunday morning. I couldn't look at her without tearing up and thinking about that morning right now makes me do the same. I think your feelings with Hallie are tenfold of that so I know you are a wreck right now. I'll be sending lots of prayers right now. I hope the time passes quickly and something can be done on Tuesday to make Hallie pain-free for a long, long time.
Dee Dee,
I am so sorry that Hallie is having back trouble again. Rays and prayers for both of you. I hope she starts to feel better real soon. :comfort:

Exactly what I said earlier only I think my post went into cyberspace... Try to get some rest. I am sure Hallie is feeling your anxiety. Have you tried a heating pad (on top of a blanket) on her back? Or do you think the little bit of weight might make it worse? It helps with the spasms. po' Hallie. po' Dee Dee. Always on a Holiday weekend I swear!   for you both.
I'm am so sorry she is going through this again! I really hope she feels better tomorrow after some rest. We are sending prayers your way!!! Im sorry I was on the internet yesterday to see this.
After what I just went thru with my ruptured disc, I will cut to the chase next time and go straight to a neurosurgeon, whether it be me, Dan or one of my doxies. Discs are complicated things and chiropractic, cortisone shots, acupuncture, drugs, etc. just will not fix them. I am convinced. I just went thru three months of hell trying "conservative" treatments, and nothing worked. I will not put one of my dogs thru something like that. And thank God for the folks who make the carts for dogs, it is a wonderful alternative for getting around and being pain-free at the same time. Dogs are not like us, they don't give a sh*t about a cart, they don't see it as being "disabled." They see it as freedom.
My prayers are going out to Hallie and DD.
Prayers   and rays coming your way from our pack to yours. Get better quick Hallie!
