Title: Chilie's paw
Post by: Beth on May 18, 2008, 06:54:12 PM
Hi Everyone,

I am sorry that I've not been around lately.  There has been so much going on over the past month, but I'll save that for a thread in NDR.  I wanted to post because I just noticed something strange on Chilie's left front paw this evening.  I don't know what it is....if it's a bug bite or an abscess or something else.  I've included a picture to see if you guys might know what it could be.  I noticed it tonight while Chilie was sitting on my lap licking her paw.  She always licks her paws, so that didn't seem unusual, but then I just happened to look down and saw this thing on her paw.  It scared me because I don't know what it is.  It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all....she's not favoring her paw when she walks, and her behavior is totally normal.  I even kind of poked around her paw, and she didn't give any indications of pain or discomfort.  Does anyone know what this might be?  I'm calling the vet first thing in the morning to get Chilie in.

Sorry to come back to the boards on such a worrisome note, but you guys are the first ones I thought of for answers and comfort. :)  Thanks.

Beth

Is the hair gone?  Is it puffy at all?  Rough?  Do you think it could have just popped up overnight?     Not sure that I have any ideas......   probably wise to get her in and have it looked at.  Good that she is not favoring it or acting like it bothers her....  Please keep us posted - sending rays to Chilie !

If she's not wincing or yelping when you manipulate it, then it probably isn't an abcess.  Could  it be an arthritic joint?

It doesn't hurt her at all?  But she's worrying it? Hmmmmmm. . . :thinik:

I'll need to consult with Siegfried and Tristan. :call:

I thought I knew the name of what it could be, but after researching, I was wrong. Molly gets an area like this sometimes. Now I have to do more research to find out what it is called. I'll see what I can find.

Beth, I am sorry I can't help you with this.  It looks painful however you state she doesn't act like it is.  Have no idea what it is but please keep us posted after Chilie comes back from the Vet today.  Am curious as to what it could be.  Rays for our sweet girl :comfort:

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the rays!  I finally got Chilie in to see the vet this afternoon.  He seems to think that it comes from her dragging her paws when she walks, and that maybe something got in there and flared it up.  Like what you said, Roberta.  It looks better today, and the vet gave us a topical antibiotic and an antibiotic in pill form.

I'm just glad it isn't anything serious.  I was so worried!
