Title: Introducing...Master Robinton!
Post by: Brekkesmom on May 13, 2008, 06:57:56 PM
Here is my new boy!  I picked him up today from a family who found him, feet up, in the street by my school, three weeks ago.  They had him checked by a vet, and he was pronounced okay.  They put up flyers and ran an ad in the papers, no response.  They already have two large dogs, so he needed to be an outside dog with them... no more!   Master Robinton (from Anne McCaffrey's Pern books) is about 5 to 6 years old, and he is a red dapple.  He is getting neutered in about two weeks.  The vet's office is moving and things would be too chaotic next week, anyhow!  He had his healthy dog checkup and the DHLPP today.  Brekke so doesn't know quite what to think about this yet.

Congrats on your new fur baby.  Love the name, but shouldn't you've called him F'nor.  After all he and Brekke were a couple? Ha Ha!
Good luck on your new baby.

Darcel

Tee hee, Darcel - these two are not a couple - just sibs, so F'nor wouldn't work!  Besides, I love the Masterharper of Pern!  And my poor vet's techs have enough trouble saying Brekke - F'nor would be a pain to explain!

How handsome he is! I have a feeling Brekke is going to enjoy the company. I am wondering how he is going to like all the pink Shabby Chic stuff! I think Brekke won't have to worry about him taking over her new bed! I'm with Cheryl, what does the "feet up" comment mean? Was he that exhausted? Also, how big is he?

Congratulations and Welcome!   We look forward to hearing more stories and seeing more pics!

Hard to believe someone would just "throw away" a handsome guy like him.   People never cease to amaze me.

Thank you everyone!   I believe April said when she found him that she thought he'd been hit, because he was feet up in the street - so maybe he was just exhausted and in shock!  They are in the kitchen right now, companionably chewing on some nylabones, but oops - the chihuahuas next door have begun a conversation that my two must join in on...

He weighed 13.5 pounds at the vet's, but judging by the "deposits" around the yard after we got home, I am betting he actually weighed about 12.5 pounds - lol!

I love it Julia!!!!  Congratulations on your new fur baby...he is darling!  I just read your email and now all of my questions have been answered.  I saw the flyer hanging up by my car and was tempted to call...but we know that Frida might not be too into another dog for her vicious couch gang.  There is only so much blanket to share on the couch.  I can't wait to see him!  I will be home recovering with my sprained balloon ankle until Friday.  Yea for you and Brekke!!!!!  I will talk with you later on.

Julia!!!! Boy things move quickly in your world sometimes.  That is wonderful! What a lucky pup and so handsome. I am sure Brekke will warm up to him soon she will like having a buddy while you are at work too. I agree with David, it is hard to understand when people throw dogs like this away. Does he seem to be housebroken? Is he definitely dapple those white spots almost look like old scars? I am thinking of the white scar Hallie has on her face that she had when I got her. I think I can see a darker circle around the bigger one on his back though so maybe it is dappling? I hope it's not from scars!

QuoteI am wondering how he is going to like all the pink Shabby Chic stuff!
LOL. Julia may have to get some camo or racecar beds!  :thumb:

Ugh Mrsmartinez...take care of that ankle! It's no fun being laid up with something like that. It never fits into our schedules!

I think the white fur may be scars.   Zeke has similar (but much smaller) spots on his face, courtesy of a "spat" with Rudy-angel.

 He took a couple of naps yesterday in her pink bed, but he slept in an old comforter that I sewed up on two sides, with a green pillow inside to hold it open.  He seems to be fairly well housebroken.  When he lifted a leg in the hall last night, I called out, "No, Robin!" and we raced outside where he got several plants, so he's a very good boy!  There is a green bed like Brekke's pink one, so I think he'll probably "get" that one.  Today, he is loose in the kitchen with the radio on, and Brekke is crated in the kitchen - she said some naughty words to her brother and has a l-o-n-g time out!

Oh, the joys of sibling rivalry ...

He sounds like a very nice boy! Great that he at least has a concept of the housebreaking thing!

Brekke says it's not good to be Brekke right now...a new brudder and jail time to boot! Hang in there kid, you will see the virtues of having a sibling soon!

Does he have any white spots other then the two areas on his back? The shape and size of them is what made me wonder scar. Like David said, they remind me of scars I've seen rather than spots but could be wrong!

He has a few other spots with about 8-10 white hairs.  There is no puckering or any ridge to indicate a scar, or several.  Acouple of spots have darker hairs around the white, so that is what made me say dapple.  A piebald would have a lot of white in regular shapes, right?

Frida has one lone white hair on her side.  Jim is afraid that if I pull it she will unravel.
