Nikki asked for pictures of Duke. She (Nikki) volunteered for a doxie rescue group in Houston that found Duke wandering the streets. When I mentioned to her that Laura was looking for another doxie, she mentioned Duke. Long story short, he was meant to be Chloe's brother. He is such a sweetheart! And he's turned out to be quite the hunter. He's working on his Master Earthdog title! He would love doing field trials, but AKC only lets registered dogs do that. He's done a few play field trials that our local doxie club has sponsored and placed above a lot of those snooty registered pups! I tell ya, he's come a LONG way from being homeless! And from what Laura has told me, he has a definite soft spot for the fosters that Laura has taken in. It's like he remembers and wants to make it as easy as he can until they find their forever homes.

What great puctures!! He sure is handsome!! :apls: The picture of him with Chloe is darling!!
If you send pictures of the dog to AKC they have a LP number or something like that that can be assigned to a dog that is thought to be pure bred and then the dog can compete in any AKC show or trial except for comformation.Sorry I do not know the correct name of the papers needed from AKC it has been at least 20 years or more that I heard about it I'm sure if you cantacted AKC they would tell you what you needed to do. I'm sure that they still do it anyone else know what I'm trying to say??? Help an old lady out.Happy Hunting

Duke is beautiful   I agree...the picture of him with Chloe is awfully sweet....you can tell they love each other very much.
What a handsome little man Duke is! I just love the last picture of the two of them...precious!
Oh my gosh what a handsome boy !!!! And what a heart he has.... brought tears to my eyes... and so did that last picture. Thanks so much for sharing !
Delia, here's the link for the AKC ILP program :-) I have both of my unpapered dogs registered under this program, so Winston and Reilly can participate in AKC events (except conformation).

sooo sweet and it's great that he is a little rescue my sis took in a rescue and he is an amazing dachshund. :thumb:
Thanks for the piccys of Duke. He is such a sweetie pie and one lucky dog to have found a home (with a little help from me  ) with Laura and Chloe. I love the picture of them together. They were like that from the first time they met. It was a match made in doxie rescue heaven!
Papouv and Kathleen,
He does have an ILP number, but that still doesn't let him participate in field trials. Go figure! The ILP number has entitled him to do earthdog and he has excelled and enjoyed it immensely. I don't understand the AKC's stance on not letting ILP dogs do field trials. It has something to do with the title being in front of their name (earthdog titles are after their name). That, evidently, makes a difference to AKC. :dontknow:
Chloe, on the other hand, is registered and could care less about field trials. She sure is on the lookout for squirrels on our mall/nursing home days. Maybe someday they'll fill a field with squirrels for her!
Wow-I'm really sad to hear that. I was under the impression that they could participate in anything other than conformation shows. I was going to try field if Winston didn't like earthdog, so that's a real bummer. Maybe I'll try flyball instead as an alternative.
Duke is such a handsome guy!!!
Hallie comiserates with the ILP not letting her do field trials. It's a good thing she doesn't have a hunting bone in her body so she's not missing out. But it still makes no sense to me either why they don't allow ILP dogs to do field trials. I don't know if it's true but I was told it's the dachshund club, not AKC who is the hang up I was told the committee has been there for ages and set in their ways.
What a great picture!

D'OH! I think you're right,DD. The Dachshund Club of America is the hangup. I forgot about them.
I can see their point to some extent. After all, let's not forget Dr. Bernese Mountain Italian Greyhound Leaky!! :2funny:
