What a striking resemblence to my Neeki!!! Thank you for the note, that was very thoughtful of you!
I will be having surgery, I meet with the surgeon on Tuesday. Hopefully they will set the date for the surgery. I want this pain to end. My folks will be arriving May 21st., they spend their summers up here at the family cabin on Long Lake in Willow Alaska, a 45 minute drive from me. I am looking forward to recuperating at the cabin. Willy and Alex will go with me, of course.
 You know Auntie Patty, Auntie Karen sent you a get well card and the post office sent it back to her, marked unable to deliver. What is THEIR deal?? Did some dufus in Alaska misplace Wasilla?? :idiot: Did a glacier melt and slide over the town?? Has the whole town been renamed Domingoville?? :apls: (We should live so long!)
Dr. Leaky
Patty, I was hoping you would not have to have surgery but if that is the only way to get the pain to go away, then I say GO FOR IT!!! Hopefully the date will be set and I assure you, it will be over before you know it....and then comes recouperating at the cabin with Willy and Alex taking good care of you :thumb: Please keep us posted as to when you will have your surgery. Hugs, prayers and best wishes to you!!!

I, too, hate it came to surgery, but from what I've been told the pain relief is immediate. Most say it is so great to have the intense pain relief from the pain of the disc, you don't really consider any surgical pain bad at all. What's a little surgical soreness after what you've been through? What have they given you for recovery time? The doctors here say 3-6 weeks, depending on who is doing the surgery. I was actually told I could be working again in 4 weeks whenever I reach that point. I hope they are right, but I also hope it's still a long way off.
I hope you have a date for the surgery soon, and I hope they don't make you wait much longer. You've waited long enough.

I feel this has gone on long enough, too. We have tried several things, starting out with the least expensive (chiropractic) and then the cortisone shot. The spine doctor I was seeing said the pain I have been experiencing will be gone when I wake up from surgery, and that the only pain will be the normal surgery pain at the site. He told me 2-3 weeks for recovery, although 4 weeks is better, he likes to see people feeling completely normal for about a week after everything has healed up. He also said I would have to wear a soft collar for about a week. We'll see what the surgeon says on Tuesday. When I go back to work, I will be given an assistant. My job for the past 16 years has been running the drafting contract we have with the local electric company. I am a one-person project, and have needed help only occasionally. Its been a dream job because I know what I need to do, I could do it in my sleep, and no one bugs me, I just work on my own. Having an assistant will mean that I can give all the grunt work away, and I can save the cream of the crop for myself. It will also mean that I can take time off whenever I want since the job will be covered. I hope to be retired in a couple of years so its good that I get someone else trained in my job. On a funny note, I have been emailing my contact at the electric company to see how the work has been going in my absence. She said "I really miss YOU working on our stuff." The guys at my company were just sort of thrown into my stuff, without me there for any guidance, since my ruptured disc came on so suddenly and I never made it back to work. I can't drive so I couldn't do the 50 mile commute to Anchorage. When we go to Anchorage for my appointments, Dan sets up a bed in the back of the Escape so I can lay down, and that works great. Dan has been wonderful through all this. He is getting pretty good at grocery shopping, I may never have to do it again! :hello2:
your licky that Dan can do the shopping what a great guy, I'd end up with twenty tins of baked beans. Also lucky you don't have strick seat belt laws, do it anywhere in OZ and both of you would be charged.
At least you can now know you cna get back to work.......

Well, we do have strict seat belt laws, but I absolutely CANNOT sit up for an hour-long drive in a car. Come to think of it, there is a way to get the seat belt around me when I am laying down, I will get with Dan on this.
