Title: sewing gals, I need your input, please
Post by: Leslie on May 03, 2008, 03:46:13 PM
I am making some window toppers for the kitchen window and kitchen door.  They will not be very long as I do not wish to block any light--maybe 10" deep.  I would like to trim them with some ball fringe, and I need suggestions for what the ratio should be for the gathering.  I want a little gathering so the balls hang nicely and don't bunch up. :jaw:  So, I'm think 1.33 times the width of the window?  The pattern is a little leaf, about paw print size, so I don't want to loose that detail in the design, either.

Hi Leslie, how are you putting it up via a U shaped rod or elasticated wire. Either way I would buy 1.5 times try it up and the scrunch up to what you like, then cut off what you don't want, easier to cut off than try to attach. Does that make sense.

Thanks for the input, Roberta, the problem sorta solved itself becuase of the cloth width I didn't want to piece them.  So I worked my ratio: since the window is 35" and the cloth width is 44" the ratio is x 1.25 the width, so  the window on the door being 26" will be 33".  Keepin' it simple!

There is one of each kind of rod: a magnetic U rod on the steel door and the elasticated wire (what we call a spring rod) on the window (it's between two cabinets with a tile backing, so couldn't mount anything on the wall.)

They are just decorative splashes of color and not full blown drapes.  Like my mom says: "A man on a gallopin' horse won't notice."

Can't wait to see the drapes you made for the bush house!

Thanks for your reply,
Les

yes so will I, I cut the ones for the front lounge and have matched the pattern now I've just to join and try and find a light weight or iron on backing, which I'm trying to find. we bought all the uv blinds last week-end.
