I have been reading a lot lately (keeping the Half Price Book Store busy !!!!) and after Kari received the Lanier Bloodhound books in their treat box - I added those to my list for my next visit.
My question - are there other series' like this one (I love mysteries/crime, ect) that involve animals?
I like the one's with "real/quirky" people and not too gruesome..... I have been reading the Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton - love those. And my sister in law has set aside a couple of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich for me.
Any other ideas?
Thanks !!!! :thumb:
The Stephanie Plum novels are definately good! There are two series about C-A-T-S that are mysteries. One series is by Lillian Jackson Braun and the other one is by a lady with the last name Douglass. (Sorry I can't remember her first name) I have heard they are good yet haven't had time to read them myself.
Another good series is by Joanna Fluke her books are really cute and everyone has recipes inside. One of the titles is Peach Cobbler Murder.
Hope this helps a little bit. If I can think of any more good ones I'll let you know. I'm sure there are lots more that involve animals, I just can't think of any right now. :doah:
I'll keep racking my brain and get back to you.
Here are a couple of writers that I really like. I got hooked on this first one because she wrote a book called "Murder Can Depress Your Dachshund". http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/e/selma-eichler/
The second one doesn't have animals regularly either, but she is a food critic that travels the world and always finds murder. Very good. I have read all but the last 3 of the books in this series. And plenty of recipes too. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/f/nancy-fairbanks/
I have sent a couple to Cheryl, so she might be able to give another review of them.
Mel
Ooooo ladies - thanks SO much !!! Can't wait to go to the HP bookstore this week end !!!!
Personally I love Lillian Jackson Braun's the Cat Who mysteries and The Mrs Murphy Mysteries by Rita Mae Brown.
Another great series is the Mitford series by Jan Karon and also the Harmony Series by Phillip Gulley - neither have animals as the main characters unless you count the chickens in the Harmony series who laid eggs with bible verses inside them(I'm not kidding)
(Melanie Travis Mysteries) by Laurien Berenson
(Dog Lover's Mysteries) by Susan Conant
(Dog Lover's Mysteries) by Melissa Cleary
(Reigning Cats & Dogs Mysteries) by Cynthia Baxter
(Rachel Alexander & Dash Mysteries) by Carol Lea Benjamin
(Kate Shugak Mystery) by Dana Stabenow-----these are more gory than some.
(Pennsylvania Dutch Mysteries with Recipes) by Tamar Myers ----there is a dog in this occasionally but they are funny and are definately quirky people--wait till you see where the dog is!!!!
(Den of Antiquity) by Tamar Myers-----this has antiques in it
(Bed-And-Breakfast Mysteries) by Mary Daheim----these are quirky too.
I have enjoyed books from all these authors.
Merion
Merion and Marcia - woo hoo - thanks so much !!! I started out by writing names on a sticky note.... to h*ll with that - I am just going to print this out !!!!
Half Price Books - here I come !!!! Hey - I got a $49 rebate on the new washing machine I had to buy..... they didn't send a check - they sent a debit card..... so guess where I am going to use it ALL !!!! :thumb:
The Melanie Travis mysteries by Laurien Berenson are really good. I just finished the series and am now waiting on her to put out a new one. Her books also teach you a lot about the dog show world. She has one, Hot Dog, that has a dachshund in it.
Now, I need to go and check out some of the others. I've read a few of them, but not all.
Don't forget Sue Henry with her many series - one of which is the Maxie and Stretch. Stretch is the dachsie, and some of her different main characters from the several series get together now and then for reunions ... I love that!
