I am considering taking Porky in for his first dental. His teeth are not horrible, but some of them are a little dirty. He just turned 3 and we brush his teeth 2-3 times a week. I'm trying to decide if we should do it now or wait a few more years. Like I said, his teeth are pretty clean also his breath is normal most days (except when he burps in my face! ACK!!) How old were your doxies when they had their first dental? I really want to stay on top of this tartar build-up so his teeth stay nice and shiny. Should we go for it now, or wait?? Penny had her first dental at 3 years old. Our vet said that dachshunds are notorious for dirty teeth!! We brush her teeth once a week. She is due for another dental but we are waiting since last year was such a rough year for her!
Patches turned 2 yrs old this last January she had her first dental last month I'm attempting to brush her teeth every day so I will not have to try to come up with over $200.00 for another dental anytime in the future. Still have not came up with a way to get to the back teeth very well. Gizmo my Papillon had a shorter muzzle so was easier to brush her teeth.The vets here in Tulsa have raise prices so high you really cannot afford vet care anymore it is crazy like everything else going up & up. I did Patches teeth because you could see tarter on her canines usually little dogs have bad teeth over the big dogs.

Thank you so much for your responses!! I decided to go ahead and make the appointment for Porky. He is scheduled for the whole "torture" treatment on Monday morning. We are blessed to have a vet that is more interested in caring for the animals than making huge profits. I'm kind of nervous about it, but I know he'll be in great hands!
