I am happy to be able to report good news concerning Miss Jude, the homeless dachshund who was scheduled to be put down Easter Sunday. We were able to remove her from the shelter, although there was some blood, tears, and trauma associated with the removal. The poor baby was so terrified she was snapping and growling at everything including the crate we were trying to get her into. She bit the crate so hard that her mouth was bleeding.
Now on to the good news. Jude has shown absolutely no aggression since being sprung from jail. I was able to bathe her yesterday and fix her a proper doxie bed - she promptly burried herself in the bedding. She likes to be held and petted. She is extremely thin. Her hip bones, ribs, spine, etc are very prominent making her look like a skelatal doxie. I have been feeding her small meals 3-4 times a day and trying to keep life's stresses to a minimum. She currently is resting in the dimly lit upstairs bathroom listening to classical music and hopefully regaining strength.
After she has gained some weight she will be fully vetted - teeth cleanied, spay, heartworm test, nails trimmed (they are so long and curled they interfere with her mobility) etc, etc... Hopefully she will return to her former sweet girl black and tan dapple doxie self.
Thanks everyone for the good thoughts!!
Janet
Bless you my dear and little Jude. Keep the heart!
Glad to hear Jude is not being so aggressive she was most likely scared out of her mind I read some where dogs on death row so to speak know it so she may have thought this is it and I'm going down fighting??? One just never knows what they are thinking glad to hear you were able to bathe her bet she feels 100% better now. Thank you for trying with her.

Miss Jude - another "Darfur Doxie!"
As for her nails, she will need multiple trimmings. As nails overgrow, the quick gets longer and longer. Try to cut a tiny bit off at first and do it once a week, a smidgeon at a time.
Guinness makes such a fuss when I pick up the clippers, I pay the groomer to do his nails. Let HER be "The Bad Guy." Me, I got enough "Dachshund guilt" to last several lifetimes!

Yes, I know what you mean. Jude has a vet appointment next Thursday - she will be getting "the works", spay, dental, heartworm test, vaccinations, and nail trim and anything else I can think of between now and then!

". . . .tune-up, oil, lube, air filter, check brakes. . . Oh, I'm sorry, that's the checklist for the Dodge, not the Doxie!"
