Title: Patches back to herself this morning Yeah
Post by: papbouv on March 25, 2008, 09:12:57 PM
Last night about midnight Patches had not moved in the bed which is unusual for her so I found a 1/4 of a Rimdyle left over from her spay so I gave it to her she was back to herself this morning. We all want to thank you for the rays and ideas the vet called this morning to ask how she was doing so I told them all about what she had been doing. They said when they started her IV before cleaning her teeth she screamed Patches just may have a low pain tolerance. She may have tensed up not knowing if she was going to be hurt or not + the vaccine may have been painful so it is just so hard to know sometimes wish they could talk. I ususally cannot get on the computer until late at night so sorry I did not get on any earlier. Again thanks to everyone those Doxie Rays are very powerful.

Great to hear. I don't know if I'd give her that vaccine again. If nothing else, it's another source of pain. Have you tried Oravet? It's a gel that you're supposed to put on once/week. The vets are supposed to apply the first time during the cleaning procedure, but since Patches just hers cleaned, it might still be an option. The theory behind it is that the plaque sticks to this gel and as you apply it, it just sticks to the gel as opposed to the teeth. We've done it twice with Gretchen. The problem we found is that it doesn't work unless you apply it!  You have to keep up with it EVERY week. Another thing...the box is expensive, but you can make each little container go for a few weeks, making the box last probably 6 months (not sure, since we didn't keep up with it). Use Q tips and tape the little container back up.

I am glad to hear that Patches is doing better.  Hope she continues to do better.

Sorry I missed the first post.  I think anytime you have a dachsie go through a procedure where they are put under, you're going to get some pretty wacky behaviors the first 24 hours after the surgery.
