Title: Pavlov's theory .....................works well here
Post by: Roberta on March 24, 2008, 12:38:30 AM
Nick has a treat of a packet (small ) of smoked salmon which the two of them love. So to-night all he did was show her the packet and she ran up to him and barked, we assume "faster servant", she had now stopped so I take it she's eating.

Amy here we have him well trained, barking always works, you really have to  be firm with them and go to the cupboard with your bowls

Eddie's bark is I'm waiting.  The cats also meow prior to entering a room to let Eddie know they are coming.  At night Eddie will come to bed long after I've turned in and his appearance will be prefaced by a series of barks coming from the living room then the sound of him walking to the bed room.

Speaking of Pavlov - my friend had the most unbelievable suggestion when we were trying to train Schatzie puppy for outdoor potty use.  Put a string of bells on the door handle and each time we let Schatzie out to do her business, we'd ring the bells.  Bells equal out.  Here it is years later, and that's how the dog lets us know that it's "out time".  Okay, we don't salivate when we hear them, but they do get us off the couch.

I tried that when I rescued Sully angel but the kitties threw monkey wrenches into it.  One day when I was sitting and watching television and Sully was not in the room I heard the bell.  Thinking Sully had finally grasped the concept I went to let him out, but there sat the Gizmo angel ringing the bell.  Also my aunt's two pug mixes learned to use the bell and it proved quite useful.
