Title: Another Hallie update
Post by: Delia and girls on March 12, 2008, 05:27:10 PM
I got an email from DD this afternoon and it sounds like Hallie has turned the corner! Finally! It was so good to get the postitive news and know that they are on their way back to a normal life again! I was waiting for her to post, but I can't stand it, I had to let you guys know. DD, I know you'll be here soon and can fill in on the details. Tomorrow is the second opinion with the second neuro guy. Soooo, if you could spare some prayers and rays their way tomorrow.

Thank you Delia! I was going to wait and post tomorrow after our vet visit so people wouldn't get tired of our updates so I'm glad you did it first!

After I emailed you I also took her out for a half hour stroller ride and for the first time since this happened, the short walk we took before getting in the stroller she looked as though she was moving around normally, willing to trot, etc. When we got home she wanted dinner (she is still more ravenous than usual although her drinking is back to normal so I suspect she's asking for food more because of spoiling rather than true excess hunger  :thumb:)  and she did her usual bark while I fixed it. When I got up from the chair to go toward the kitchen, she for the first time raced out ahead of me, and grabbed a bag of (work) stuff on the floor...her normal thing is when I get up like that, she will run out ahead of me and grab either one of her babies or her blanket or whatever is close, gently with her mouth, just one soft bite. It was SO good to see her do that I didn't think I'd see that again!

I really am amazed at how well she is looking...I know she's not cured but if she can just keep bouncing back like this.....maybe getting the miracles I've (we've) been praying so hard for!

I was doing some product photography this afternoon for a web site we're doing and Hallie kept sitting right next to me staring up at me, then the thing I was photographing. She wanted to be the one getting her picture taken so I put her up on the table and shot a couple. She did not want me to take her off the table when I was done she kept sitting there posing so I took a bunch more.    Here are some.

What a cutie! She looks really good! Her eyes are bright and she looks happy. For the first time, that I've been able to see, her gray is showing. It really looks cute! It's funny, she's graying on her top lip and up her snout and Gretchie is graying on her bottom lip, chin and downward.

I think she wanted you to take the picture so she could try to convince everyone you were making everything up!! She looks so good and looks as if she is saying "What is all the fuss about?" It will be interesting to see what you find out tomorrow. For some reason, I keep thinking you may be told something completely different (and better). If the MRI is angled just a tad differently, it may look different. You just don't know. I do wonder if part of the reason she was so lethargic last week was a reaction to the steroids and all the other drugs in her system. It seems that once they have gotten out of her system she is feeling more normal.
I'll be checking the site when I get home tomorrow to see what you find out.

They do seem to gray fast when the go through something traumatic like this. I have had more people mention her gray in the last 3 weeks! Drives me crazy. :) But I'll take a few gray hairs along with the feeling good part, I'm sure I have many more gray hairs now myself! Yes funny how they all seem to gray a little bit differently. Although on Hallie, she looks even more gray because she has the long white scar that goes across her nose which she's had since I got her at 10 months old, we figure it is from getting bitten. :(

Teresa I decided to not do an MRI or any other further testing, it would be good to see what is going on in there but it would not change her outcome or her treatment plan, it would just give us information for curiosity sake so I don't want to put her through that. She's been through enough poor baby she had such a rough time at the clinic with her other tests. I just would like a few questions answered about how to treat her and if they know what brings on an episode...with disc disease, I pretty much understand it so know how to best fight it. This one is an unknown so I dont know the best way to handle her when she's having a spell. I am always real careful with her back anyway but I hope he can tell me a little more about all this. And could be too that he doesn't know, I may just get opposite info and then really be confused!  I think you are right about her being tired and sore last week partly from the procedures she had. I'll bet she had quite a headache for a bit too. When the Dr brought her to me the 2nd day I figured she'd go nuts when she saw me but she just turned her head away...it broke my heart.

Penny is only 5 and in the year since her surgery and immune system problems she has really started to gray on her muzzle!!

Dee Dee...I am so happy to hear that she is doing better. We have been thinking about both of you a ton and praying that she would rebound!!

It could just be that time in their lives when the grey starts to show.   Zora is 6 1/2 now and she is starting to show some noticeable gray in her muzzle.   Since Zeke is a blue, it's really hard to tell if he is getting any gray.

I remember Max developed a poof of white at the tip of his muzzle shortly after I adopted him.   It was almost like he did that intentionally to show the world "I'm the older one".  It wasn't until he was 7 or 8 before the "frosting" began to spread.   By the time he was 17, his clear red coat was about 50/50 white, and areas like his paws and snout were almost 100% white.

We're so glad that Hallie is doing better.  You can look in her eyes and see that she was so determined to stay with you.   You saved her and gave her a forever home.   Hallie won't ever forget that, and she'll do everything in her power to show you how much she appreciates that every day.

So very glad to hear this news.  Hallie certainly looks good in her pics. Sophie sends big licks to her sis. (she's getting a little gray on the muzzle as well). We're hoping that you get some good advice from the neurologist.

Hmmm. . .  L'Oreal, because she's worth it!

Me, I tried the Grecian Formula, but it just made my grey hairs turn green when Auntie Karen washed me with tap water!

So now all baths are with Evian!

Guinness :bath2:

Well, we three Bakerfieldian women are surely breathing big sighs of relief for Hallie!  Rebecca was asking about her just this morning at school, and I just filled Brenda in on this update!   (I am beginning to take more Brekke piccies, DD, I promise!)

Thank goodness to hear from you, I was like the others, terrified that soemthing had happened.
She is as always gorgeous and hairy, Glad to hear she is back to demanding dinnie, Amy says to say "is there any other way to get mums to move faster"
AS to the grey, Oliver is our little grey masked boy, but he stresses about everything, while madam has only a grey whisker, but she is so laid back.
Big hugs and continuing rays and prayers
Roberta

Glad to hear she is on the mend.
Speaking of graying.........Willy and Alex are litter-brothers and Willy has a whole lot more gray than Alex.  I attribute that to being ornery.
Don't ever feel like you are annoying us with updates, we do worry.  All the doxies here belong to all of us and it could be any one of us who is dealing with a hurting or sick doxie.  Any information is helpful.  Not knowing is the worse torture.
