...butt. She went in this morning for her dental (which went fine) but her anal glands were impacted, one of the worse cases the vet had ever seen. They did not seem to be infected but he cleaned them out and packed them with Panalog antibiotic so she should be right as rain in a few days. I feel terrible about not catching this. But Skeetie is such a stoic little toughie she never showed any signs of pain or discomfort. I hope she feels a lot better after all this. I vow from this point on to regularly brush her teeth and then check the other end she dosen't have to go through any of this again.
Oh poor Skeeter....definite soothing rays and prayers for Skeeter are on their way.....please don't beat yourself up over this......you had no way of telling they were infected. Did the Vet suggest making an appt. every couple of months to have them checked? That would be a way to keep track of things.
Here are some soothing rays for Skeeter's kester. I hope she feels better soon.

It's been a harrowing morning! When Skeeter is frightened, it scares the c**p outta her, and the vet's office frightens her! Predictably, she produced a stool sample in the waiting room. We were very nervous as well, because her heart murmur is now a grade 6, but her teeth were so bad we felt we had to risk the dental cleaning. But Dr. Goode checked her heart, and besides the leaky valve the heart seems to be doing okay, and there is no need to medication at this time.
The anal gland problem shocked us! She has only had to have her sacs expressed a handful of times in the 9 years we have had her. Dr. Goode said that the impacted matter was hard and like powder on both sides. He had never seen anything like it. We didn't suspect a thing. She never once scooted, licked her heinie, or chewed back there. There were absolutley no signs that anything was amiss. I feel bad for her, but after this she should feel so much better.
Whne we said goodbye this morning, I hugged and kissed my sweet little girl. There will be many more hugs and kisses tonight.
Awwww poor Skeeter - worked on both ends...... sending rays that she feels better......sounds like a soft scrambled egg dinner to me ! Strange that she wouldn't have showed any signs to a sore hiney - but she may have just endured and gotten used to it. Let us know how she does !
Poor Thing! Rays headed her way! :comfort:
ACK!
Major rays headed for poor Skeeter! How sad to be sore at both ends... but I bet a sore tushie is the worst.

Skeeter is home, a bit wobbly but otherwise her sweet, lively little self. The vet said she would be sore for a couple of days at least, so not to be alarmed if she favors her backside. He had to lance both sides, squeeze, but it was so hard he had to fill with panalog, work the panalog in to soften the gunk, and squeeze again. No sign of infection, but that stuff was packed in hard!
Her heart seemed strong, but occasionally beats irregularly. He didn't think we needed to act at this time, but at some point we might want to do an ultrasound and maybe a even pacemaker. I didn't know they had them for dogs.
And her toothies, the whole reason for the visit, are healthy. No extractions--12 years old and she still has all of her teeth!
Poor Skeeter, Sam Angel had the same problem with his anal glands and had two ruptures in as many years. The vet likened the pastey fluid to toothpaste. Finally I found a vet who had really reasonable rates and Sam would go once a month to have his glands expressed and he never had a problem again. And like Skeeter he never bothered with the impacted glands. Sam's worse problems came during the summer when it was really muggy, don't know why but it was strange.
Skeeter~ you poor little girl!!! Not only the teeth, but add the rear end in there!!!! :doah: Rays headed your way... My Boo was the same way, he very much disliked the vet... And, of course the stool samples... lol  As for his anal glands... Well, they were expressed everytime he had his nails clipped, and not by human purpose either... Hope your teeth and your butt are better quick... Take care sweet girl....
