Toby has had a rough couple of days. Things seemed to be looking up a little bit on Tuesday. Yesterday he took a turn for the worse. He has now developed several secondary infections because his little immune system is not working well. He has a sinus infection and upper respiratory infection. His intestinal tract has an infection as well. His lungs are still clear which is a blessing. The cough is horrible...and pretty much starts up whenever he moves. He is sleeping a lot and I think that is a good thing.
He has been given more injections than I can count. Our vet sent him home with us last night. He said that it woud be best for him to be home resting. The good news is that he ate a little food this morning. I had to syringe feed him but he did take about five full syringes. We are mixing some canned food from the vet with water. He went back to the vets this morning where he will stay for the day. We are going to take this one day at a time and try to get rid of the infections. He will come home with me at night and I will take him to the vets in the morning. This will make it a lot easier on him...we hope. At night he will be able to cuddle and sleep in the big bed with me (which he loves) and the vet will be able to monitor him during the day and give him meds as needed. I am taking a few days off to rest up and spend time with Buelah and Oscy during the day. They have been absolutely wonderful through this. It's as if they understand that Toby is sick and needs me right now.
I'll post an update after I see the vet this afternoon.....

Toby boy - what a rough time you are having - we are sending massive rays and prayers that you shake this thing quickly. I know the love of your family is helping. What good siblings you have to understand that you need mom the most right now.

Those of us at Florida Dachshund Rescue feel terrible that this has happened with Toby. We hate it when any of our furkids (or fosters) are so sick. I am thankful Toby has fallen into such a wonderful and understanding home.
The last time you posted I had really hoped that Toby had turned the corner and was getting better. I guess it is never easy with a heartworm. We will continue with the rays and prayers for you and your sweet little boy.

I've been away for the past few days and am only now catching up. I'm sorry to hear about Toby's problems. Poor fella! Poor mom! We are sending tons of hugs. belly rubs rays and prayers so that he gets better and can run and play soon.
