Title: Symtoms of UTI?
Post by: Barb on February 21, 2008, 07:10:40 AM
Urinary track infection - several here have posted about it.  Brandy seems to be peeing a lot more than usual lately and last night, right in front of me, she peed on the bedroom carpet.  She has never done that before!   If it is nasty outside, she will sometimes go on my kitchen throw rugs which is fine - they are easily thrown in the wash and that is ususally when I am not at home.

I have noticed her drinking more water than usual too - not sure if that is related or if it means anything.  I have to wrap my head around the fact that my baby girl will be 12 next month and may be related to getting older.

I am going to give the vet a call and see if they want me to capture some urine and bring in for testing - and will search the net a bit.

Always appreciate your information !!!

Our family beagle had UTI and it was frequent urination that had blood in it. I'm also wondering diabetes...our other dog peed a ton and was drinking a lot. He also lost some weight. He was eventually diagnosed with diabetes. Just  :2cents:. Maybe have the vet check her out just in case??

My two have not had a UTI (knock on wood) but I believe there would be some blood in the urine if there is a UTI.  I agree it's best to call the vet and have a urine sample checked out....I do know that excessive drinking and peeing are signs of it.

I am going to take her in Sat morning and just have them take a look.  I am going to attempt to capture a sample between now and then !!!  Very hard to tell if there is blood - since she normally goes in the grass or on a dark rug !!!!

I think Mike is right on track...either UTI or diabetes. At least both are manageable. Gretchen had a UTI once. She was going pp so often, she was barely in the doggie door when she'd turn around a go right back out. As I remember, (it's been a few years), she responded to the antibiotics after the first or second dose. I hope she feels better soon. I didn't realize she was twelve years old already!

Tips on how to get a sample.  Take a clean foil pie plate and fold it in half.  Unfold almost 99%.  When pupper pees, catch it in the foil and transfer to clean bottle-- the fold makes a funnel.
Good luck and if they tell ya to switch foods, try bottled water first as Loki developed hers only after drinking well water with a water softener for 4 months.  Prior to that we had city tap (yuck).  She was peeing here and there and then the third time in the big bed.  So Off to the vet 'cuz I know she is reliable and it was not the change in environment as we had been here 4 months.
Good luck with the little girl,
