Zeke's fellow potato farmer, Boone, is at the vet today. He was there for his semi-annual check up on Saturday. He has tartar and stage two gum disease (inflammation) but is not likely to need extractions. The vet checked his ears and found wax plugs against one ear drum and close to the other ear drum. When wax is right against the ear drum, moisture can get trapped, causing painful ear infection. I do clean his ears, but I don't reach in as far as the ear drum, nor should I, since the ear drum is very thin, delicate, and easily damaged. Dr. Goode doesn't believe that he has an ear infection yet, but he will have his ears flushed while under for the dental cleaning. I think I'll also have his nails clipped. They aren't too long yet, but why wait and do it while his is awake? I'll have it done now and he can avoid further distress. Strange thing about the Boonester's nails. When whey get long, they get sharp points like puppy's nails.
I'll worry about him, but I know he'll get lot's of love while he's there. The vet techs fuss over him and have shown us pictures they have taken of them hugging and fussin' over Boone. The receptionist also told me she plans on going in the back for some Boone lovin'.
Rays headed his way! Sounds like he is going to be squeaky clean!
As, it turns out, Boone will come home today with shorter nails, and that's about it.
Boone's blood work wasn't so hot. Two of his liver levels are elevated. According to the vet, it's not enough to make him really worried about Boone, but it's enough to make him back off surgery for today. Possible causes are jumping off furniture and striking his abdomen against something (not likely), eating something in the yard he shouldn't (Boone is a member of PEA), or any of several other things.
Boone will be on antibiotics, and we will try again next week. He will hang out at the vets today and we'll pick him up after work. They will feed him, which Boonie will appreciate since he missed his morning meal for nuttin'.
Oh No!! Hopefully everything will return to normal with the antibiotics!
Rays on the way for Boone... Get better quick.... Hugs & Belly Rubs...
you are lucky boy to have been saved going under. Hope the Enzymes are OK next wee, like humans they can go up and down withing hours............but hey boyooooooooo you got food.
Big hugs to all

My main concern right now are his ears. He has the wax plugs, which can trap moisture agianst the ear drum and cause a yeast infection. It does not appear that he has a yeast infection yet, but he is beginning a course of antibiotics. And ladies, we know what happens when you take antibiotics...you get a yeast infection! I am very worried that he'll get the yeast infection that we were hoping to avoid.
  Prayers your way for Boone!!! I hope his enzymes get back to normal asap so he can have his dental and his ears cleaned. Ear infections are no fun at all
Awwww poor Boonie...... will the liquid ear stuff help break it up? The kind you squirt in and massage?
