Margie and I finally pitched our old couch. Between the dachshunds and a rambunctious 4 year old, the poor cloth couch just couldn't hold up. This time we went out and bought a leather couch. Here's what is weird...the Zs want absolutely nothing to do with the new couch. In fact, they are terrified of it. It is the same dimensions and almost the same color as the old one. However, even when encouraged to come up on the couch, the Zs just stare at us. At best, Zora jumps up into our lap, but will not set one paw on the material. Even when I set them on the couch, they immediately jump off. My first thought is that they don't like the smell of the leather material. However, I had leather seats in my old Pathfinder, and the Zs had no problems there. It's bizarre...I can't figure out what is repelling them. Well, at least Jessica thinks the new couch is great!
Just give the Z's time.I'm sure when it's been there for a while they'll be up on it with you!
Probably saying "we want out olf smells..........dad" Is'nt it funny their little ways, but at least they are not jumping.

It probably "feels" different to them. Doxies are so particular, they like things just so and don't like it to change. Isn't it funny when they give you that look that says "you want me to do what?" That is not their couch, it is an alien.

The "Z" perspective:
When was the last time YOU jumped on a dead cow?
Any questions???
Karen :2funny:
Try putting a blanket up there and see what they do. I wonder if it is the feel of it. This is interesting because we are talking about getting a leather couch soon. We are hoping to move soon (actually putting a contract on a house today if I can get all the details worked out) and a lot of our old furniture isn't going with us.
Couch watch, Day 3....still no dachsies on the couch.
They are so particular...aren't they! Penny hates to have stuff changed - especially her routine!!
Yes dad and Big Nannie wore hats outside and we barked as they did not look like them.
Da gang
Couch watch, Day 4: I'm able to pick the Zs up and put them in my lap. Zeke is fine, so long as his front paws are on me. The rest of his body can be on the couch, but as long as his front paws touch me, he is fine. If his front paws touch the couch, he jumps off. Zora is still very nervous, even in my lap. Neither one will get on the couch voluntarily.
Roberta: The Zs are the same way. When I come in from cycling, I have on a helmet, sunglasses, windbreaker, headband. They both take up defensive postures until I start talking and they realize it is me.
Couch watch, day 5...Zeke spends the Super Bowl in my lap. He's fine as long his front paws are on me. Zora was okay in Margie's lap, but was very skittish. I slowly put Zeke fully on the couch, but next to me.
Couch watch: Day 10. Zeke finally got up on the couch on his own power and stayed there. Zora is getting less skittish, but seeing Zeke up there has definitely given her reason to get up there herself.
Uh oh, pretty soon they won't let you on the new couch...
That is just too funny !!! Guess I will think twice about getting new furniture !!!! Mike's right....soon it will be THEIR couch !
From the "Z" Perspective:
Dead Cow Watch, Day 14:
Cow still not moving. Can't figure out David's plan - is he trying to get a ride from it? I have bad news for him - that cow ain't goin' nowhere anytime soon!! Am only riding at David's invitation.
My only question: where did the Herculon cow end up?
Hmmmmmm. . . . . . . .
Z and Z
LOL Karen!!!!!!!
Actually -- Day 12: Zs are FINALLY comfortable with the dead cow, oops, I mean couch.
First of all, it's THEIR couch, I imagine. And second, it won't be "new'' very long ...
