Title: Can I vent too
Post by: papbouv on January 21, 2008, 10:34:24 PM
This Diabetes stuff is plain nuts they wrote a script for the insulin I ran out of monies so my husband picks it up says on the sheet No Needles ? so hubby comes home with it. He asks me about the needles I say I do not know? so today I go back to Walgreen's ask about the needles they say they are separate???? I say that is illogical to sell the Lantus Solar Star pen insulin without the needles. The Pharmacy tech says we will have to call your doctor to get an order for the needles how dumb is that oh she tells me it will be another $33.00 for 100 needles.???? I was so upset I said forget it.I go home & call Lantus there excuse is they only make the insulin pens with no needles???? Some other outfit makes the needles???? I tell them they are illogical too I was nice about it but they say stress makes you blood sugars go up so then they stress the heal out of you. Thanks for letting me vent maybe it will help the stress.

Oh my goodness....you poor dear!!!  I had no idea that needles were separate and cost so much....Please don't stress out over it....it's not worth it....your health is more important so I guess they "have you where they want you"....you have to take the insulin therefore you must get the needles....Hang in there and Don't worry...Stress is totally so not good for you :comfort: :comfort:

Do you have diabetes assoc, like we have Diabetes Australia they will help you through. Usually you can get items cheaper if you are a diabetic. Phone the company you may be able to buy bulk, you may have to out put a larger amount of money in one go but you may find it cheaper . How long do the needles last are they one dose. Plus in the states can you put them against your tax at the end of the year.

:cussing: I have been insulin dependent since i was 4 and at the age of 43 i have been at the mercy of all of the insulin manufacturers test strip manufacturers pump manufacturers.... I could go on.  I depend on insurance to make ends meet.  i counted up the supplies that i use and was astounded at the cost without insurance.  Insulin $100 per bottle at 3 to 4 bottles a month.  Insulin pump $7000 each with a three year warranty ($7000 approximately 3 years ago so when this one goes i will need a new one who know what the price is now).  Batteries for the pump $4 each and the pump uses 3.  Batteries on my pump will last for approximately 3 weeks.  These are watch style batteries so there are no re chargables.  Test strips $1 each and testing 6 time a day.  Tubing for the pump which have to be changes out every 2-3 days $12 per set.  Syringes for pump (yes they are separate) $5 each and also need to be replaced with the tubing.  The poly skin to hold the tubing in is $30 a box and has about 40 units in it.  This does not count for the alcohol swabs that i need to use out in public or the bottles of alcohol and cotton balls that i use at home.  I am now on cholesterol medication even though i have a good levels.  Some study somewhere said that these meds were good for Diabetics and therefore we need to take them at about $3 per pill per day.  We have not even started counting the number of shirts that i have ruined when my fingers bleed unexpectedly.  Papbouv i feel your pain.  Diabetes is such a moneymaking proposition for the drug companies it is unbelievable.  :BangHead:

good grief!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find out the manufacturer and ask the nurses at the doctor's office to pester the drug reps for any products, coupons or rebates the company offers.

Hey, $5.00 here and there in your pocket, eh?
